1989 Lincoln Town Car "Dr. Lincoln" Former Daily Driver/Project Car, To Be Donated.

General Description

Engine Specifications:
  • Stock Ford 302 5.0L V8
Engine Misc.:
  • I think the engine is getting tired. It takes the car just over 4 1/2 secs to get to 30 compared to almost a full 12 secs to get to 60.. the car is satisfyingly punchy below say 35-40, but once you get above that it's a total flop..no power at all. I know that's partially due to how it's geared, but really no gearing should enable a 4.5 0-30 yet require an addtl 7.5 for 30-60.

Turbocharger & Induction:
  • none
Fuel & Tuning:
  • stock
Exhaust:
  • single exhaust. The exhaust pipe has rusted and fallen off rear of the muffler (so, just the tailpipe) but it hasn't had any real impact on noise levels... actually, I kinda like the soft blub that this gave the car.
Drivetrain:
  • stock. 3:08 gearbox
Weight reduction & transfer:
  • none
Suspension, wheels & tires:
  • stock
Interior:
  • tan leather. This is a plain Town Car, no signature series or executive or anything like that, so the leather seats are the non-plush kind. The back seat is in pretty good condition, the front passenger seat has some wear, and the driver's seat is very worn (I don't think it has any out-right rips in it though) The driver's door arm rest is all torn up. The carpet on the floor is very good and the dash is almost perfect....almost.
Exterior:
  • Brown...almost Gold, but Brown. The paint on the quarter panels and doors are very good. The paint on the hood and the trunk is very bad. Totally oxidized and splotchy...almost to the point of being grey. The Pleather top is faded and worn, but not really torn or scratched..it's pretty whole and solid, just real flat. There's one rust rot spot on the left rear quarter panel right by the wheel well. There's also some rust on the right rear quarter panel and maybe minutae rust on the front quarter panels and the doors, but all in all, the rust situation is not bad on this car.

Comments

Has the engine problem become progressively worse? Have you tried a bottle of Chevron Fuel System Cleaner?
