After repairing a broken wheel stud and coolant pipes I thought I was ok for a while but a problem occurred with the rear passenger window yesterday (2004 LS8).

The window will not go up all the way and stops about 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the top, leaving a small gap.

I can lower and raise it from both the main switch on the driver's door and the switch on the rear passenger door except it doesn't close fully. In playing with the rear door window switch there were a couple times I lowered the window a few inches but then it wouldn't move back up but after a couple tries pressing the switch it would move back up and then stop with the same small gap at the top.

Is this the rear window regulator on the way out? Or are there any plastic gears in the mechanism that may be worn? I haven't removed the panel as yet but will get to it this weekend or maybe before if I can get home while there's still light to work with.

Thanks!

Thanks! the deneau link only lists one part number: 5427009 (for both sides). Will look up Tascaparts to see what they have - if any now.

EDIT: Tascaparts doesn't list it anymore. Passenger Rear is "right" side (position from inside the car)?

Check the local auto parts store or rock auto, these things are readily available whenever I need one from outside of the Ford parts system. (in the US) And they are much cheaper!

I saw that Rock Auto has them - both Ford and aftermarket. Under the following item listing they have a "Regular Inventory" price and a "Wholesaler Closeout - Private Label Pkg" price, the latter being the cheaper one (with a 30 day warranty). Not sure what private label pkg means and why the warranty is only 30 days - returns?

Mine started doing that. I just silicone lubed the runners(track) it slides in and it has been working okay since. Every once in a while I have to pick up on it. Generally I avoid using it often. The best way of course,is to take the door apart and fix it correctly. If it were the front window,I'd have already done that. don-ohio :)^)

I'll take it apart this weekend and see what's going on behind the panel before ordering. I see the window motor is listed separately - it could also be that as well?

The motor comes with a new regulator assembly in most cases.
