if you open all of the solenoids at once (running 12v to each) it will drop the car and usually trigger a check air ride message (in my experience on a 93) which will prevent it from fighting to stay up or correct itself after you walk away, the next time you start the car it will pump back up...
I've had mine for about 9 years now, I also had another running mark viii and two parts cars. I sold all of the others and I'm back down to my first one. It's not my daily driver anymore, though some weeks I'll put it back to work just because I like it so much. If anything ever happens to it...

my front bags went out after 12 years and 120k miles, most of which have been in the phoenix heat
the car is now 16 and still has the original rear bags. the neon has never failed.

The ride isn't as smooth as you would think, it's not as floaty and soft as a town car or crown vic. I keep mine pretty low and it's a bit stiff but not jarring.
