That part has since been replaced as well as the thermostat housing. I went oem on that tube and thanks to the guys who helped me when i was in that situation.

I recently had to change that part. That white residue indicates a coolant is escaping the system through their as steam. Id highly recommend replacing this part before you stay stranded as i did. I was experiencing the same symptoms as you.
