In the tests I did with my 1996 STS there was no improvement by adding a cone filter or modified intake that I could find. Greg Garcia did some back to back dyno tests with a Aurora 4L NS that showed some improvement, on the other hand.

There was a body redesign in 98, as the STS moved to the G platform (as used on the Aurora). Not sure how the 01 differs, although the tail lights may have changed that year.

I don't think there ARE any stock Impala SS's. The 4.9L STS had 200 hp for 3700 lbs and went 0-60 in around 8.2-8.5 sec stock. The 96 Impala around 260 hp for 4200 lbs and went 0-60 in 7 sec or just under.

I had a 2004 CTS I drove problem free for 20K miles, then traded on a 2005 CTS. No problems so far with 17K miles.
