It is said (here and by various other sources) that the Wixom plant only ever made 63 stick LSEs. I wish mine weren't such a rustbucket, but even so it's a blast to drive.
At least you don't have to worry about the radiator's inevitable demise now!
I think the replace-every-plastic-everything-at-once-with-OEM advice is generally good, but there is still a time and a place for troubleshooting. Granted, in our cases the need for troubleshooting is because of an...
Yes, basically was wondering if the housings were interchangeable, or even meant to be taken apart at all.
I swapped in the Motorcraft thermostat today and it appears to have fixed the problem, temps ranged from 195-210 stop-and-go driving on a beautiful 50F Minneapolis day. The Gates t-stat...
Thanks Roger, hope this does the trick.
Did you put the t-stat into an aftermarket housing? Was thinking I'd leave the plastic as-is since it seems fine.
After doing some searching, I'm going to buy a new thermostat and see if that fixes it. Gates CO34838 is the assembled thermostat kit in question, can't find any other references to it but sure looking like it's not worth the $60 I saved.
2005 V8, 95K miles, was running fine (other than occasional coolant smell), but car started overheating and I found a crack in the thermostat housing.
So with LVC's guidance, I replaced every plastic part except the degas (bought a URO bottle to put in in spring) and most of the hoses...
I put one on my 02 and it matched up exactly with the rotting seal that I picked off (and seems to have stopped the leaking, at least to point of not causing noticeable misfires...)
Oddly, I don't believe there's any way to give them money in exchange for a permanent key. I've heard others say you can generate another key though. And you can buy the Android version if you want to send a few bucks their way.
@RigsLS IIRC I waited a few days for FORScan people to approve my forum account, at which point I filled out the license form and it sent me a key right away.
The USB stick I got merely contains a DVD image that you mount to install/run the app. Pretty sure you could make one yourself from...
Guy at work asked me about my 02 and found this blog while Googling for more info:
That's pretty fun if true! Actually seems high if there were only 372 total that model year.
Replaced the smog pump/and EGR solenoid on my V6 last night which did take care of the last CEL code (P1414) but then got a P0141 going to work today. Maybe I reconnected something wrong?
You can tell it predates the existence of touch screens but it works okay and I think the form factor is really nice. Was just out replacing the smog pump on my 02, had the tablet under the wheel well with me.
The USB stick I got does indeed have an installer that puts stuff in C:\TSO. The...
Tablet
Any of these would be fine: Best Cheap Windows 10 Tablets
Or this: Micro Center - Computers and Electronics
Look for a Bay Trail chipset device, they are cheap and sufficiently powerful to run the apps we're talking about here.
I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro, which I don't think they make...
There's a good point in here: the FORScan team is a bit mysterious, so running the app on a burner Windows device that doesn't have access to all your private data is not a bad idea.
(My guess is that XP will work fine but I haven't ever tried it)
I used one of these Bluetooth readers to get my door code and otherwise do useful things with Windows FORScan:
Amazon.com: Bluetooth OBD2, LOLLDEAL MINI Bluetooth OBD2 OBD2 Scanner Car Diagnostic Scan Tool /OBDii Code Reader OBD2 Bluetooth Check Engine Light for Android and Windows System-...
hey all,
Was getting misfires on cylinder 1 (the flashing CEL kind) after a big rain and they were still happening after a week, so I'm replacing coils and plugs under the manifold. Definitely some water in there, cleaned everything out and replaced the cowl arm seal to prevent future leaks...
I guess if this thread is back, I should share that I unexpectedly ended up with this 02 LSE 5-speed about a month ago. 151K, kind of beat up but I'm working through the issues as time allows. The woman who sold it to me (and whose ad stated clearly that it was manual) said multiple people...
