Geometrics are stock wheels and were offered as an option from as far back as 1982 to as recent as 1987.
I know of three complete sets still in existence. Here's a shot of a set without the center cap.

I'm glad that you looked in the CENTER CONSOLE, UNDER THE ARM REST LOWER COMPARTMENT and found the toggle switch to electronically release our fuel doors.
I'm a little late to this party but, I agree with the 'dashboard' statement. The next heater core to die on one of my cars, will go STRAIGHT to the mechanics.

The sound is normal but what you PROBABLY heard was the sound of unused fuel being pumped BACK into the tank through a red rubber anti-siphon valve.
Low? Yes, hence the sputter or feeling of lack-of-power.
