Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

Replacing the system with coils altogether. No band-aids, no hoping nothing else goes out, or wondering when it WILL go out on a 21 year old car. In short, no fooling around. This thing is a money pit. In too deep to bail now.

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

It seems there are a few problems with this 21 year old air ride system. bags are leaking, front height sensor is bad. I'm pretty sure I'm replacing it with springs; I just can't throw the $$ into it to re-do the air system correctly. Nor do I want to do the Band-Aid Dance. SO, now the question...

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

Thanks. I'm starting to think it's not 'A' bag, since it's down evenly, and used to leak out overnight in cool weather symmetrically, too. Could be BOTH bags? Or maybe the solenoid? I'll keep ya'll posted .....

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

Hello, again. Now, the front air is out completely, chin nearly on the ground. The pump still works, but no change in height. I suppose it could be any number of things. Any ideas for most likely culprit? Thx SoT

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

I love my Mk8. I really do. It's a great car, 70k, but it's my daily driver, has minor air ride issues, and it's 20 years old. So, I'm seriously considering springs, so I don't have to worry about being randomly, suddenly incapacitated. IF that's my choice, what brand would you all suggest? I...

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

What the? Fine powdered wax? Anyway, back to reality. I do wonder: why NOT convert to springs? Does the ride / handling suffer?

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

@fordknutt, both sides leak down in front. 'Bouncy' means it kind of hovers a bit over rolling dips, goes higher in reaction that I would expect. @All: I'm going to try sensor lowering. I still wonder how it got to the current height. They say, always turn off air suspension before lifting...

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

Thank you all. I still wonder what to do about the "bouncy" ride and mediocre handling, which I am convinced us due to the excessive height. There could be two problems here. Idea: what happens when a technician neglects to switch off the air ride system before lifting the car off its wheels?

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

Thanks. I wonder if it's time to go with springs which are $400 for the whole car. It's the from that is lowered in the mornings. The dimensions per the method shown are 630mm front, 640mm rear. Both sides even. How did that happen? Can it be adjusted to correct height using the sensors? If...

Mark VIII Air Ride / Vehicle Height Question

Hello, all! I have a '95 mark VIII with air ride. I get a CHECK AIR RIDE message, and it has to pump up after sitting over night--sometimes, during the day if it's below, say, 50. It also feels a bit 'bouncy', and handling could be better, though it's the only MK8 I have ever been in. My...

    1995 Mark VIII Stereo Questions

Thanks for your reply. I take it that replacing the head unit with a modern, aftermarket unit would entail rewiring, since everything from the stock unit goes to the amp before the speakers. Also, I find the placement of the rear speakers to be troubling for anyone in the back seat!

    1995 Mark VIII Stereo Questions

    1. Sometimes the unit won't turn on. Antenna goes up, but no lights, no sound. 2. What is in the enclosure under the package shelf--the amplifier? It has holes in the top, but I hear no sound coming from it. And how do you remove the clips or oddball screw thingies to access...

What is the Offset of this Wheel?

Aren't stock Mark VIII wheels 39mm offset? It sure looks like more than an 8mm difference.

What is the Offset of this Wheel?

16x7, but what is the offset? Thanks

    Wheels That Fit Mark VIII's

ALL: What are you opinions for tire size, 17x7.5 rims? Handling and ride are more important than looks. THANKS

    Wheels That Fit Mark VIII's

More pics of the car I showed above, guessing at least the same "stick out", and I'm OK with it. The tires he uses (255/55/17) are 28" tall. Stock (225/60/16) are 26.6". Anyway, damn fine looking Mark, that one. keVIIIn

    Wheels That Fit Mark VIII's

Here's why I think it will work: 1. Backspacing OK, actually a bit more than stock. 2. Only sticks out another inch. 3. Below Max tire size I am considering is 235-55R-17. 1/2" taller than stock. Will keep you all posted.

    Wheels That Fit Mark VIII's

By my calculations, they would stick out about an inch. It seems that would be negligible from an aesthetic standpoint, to me anyway. If I use a tire the same diameter, or maybe slightly taller (1" max), is that what makes you wary of fender rub? And lastly, the adequate backspacing would be...

    Wheels That Fit Mark VIII's

I'm going to re-post this, since I need to get new tires soon. Mine are from 2001. yep. Anyway, Found some wheels, with these specs: 17X7.5, 5 LUG, 4 1/2" OR 114.3MM BOLT PATTERN, 44MM OFFSET If the stock wheels are 39mm offset and 7" wide, the wheels spec'd above would have or 13.2mm more...
