Ok, newb here. We're looking at a 2000 LS8 tonight, and thought I would get some feedback.

It's an Autumn Red Metallic (burgundy color) V8 Sport package. Looks immaculate in the pics, was garage kept. Tan leather, 17" wheels, sunroof, cd changer, loaded basically. The seller is asking $10,900, which I'm finding to be a steal.

It's got 75,000 miles on it, and I'm wondering if this is really too many. I'm going to have a real close look at it, but sadly I'm only familiar with the longevity capability of the GM motors. I figure (and am hoping to confirm) that if the motor was properly maintained (and an oil analysis comes out good) that the motor will have plenty of life left.

Another thing I'm wondering about is the transmission. I've seen plenty of mixed reviews about it, but the biggest question I have is whether or not the computer reflash TSB really affects anything???

Is there anything major I need to be on the lookout for??? Most maintenance stuff isn't going to really bother me because I'm a mechanic at heart and pride myself on doing 99% of my own work.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!! :Beer :yourock:

well i recently got my ls and ive been to the dealer twice and had a few headaches here and there but as a mechanic and now a counterman one thing you always have to keep in mind is that a used car is a USED car. sh!ts going to happen. Funny tho I have a 93 infinity g2o with 167,000 miles and it starts EVERY time i turn the key. :wrench

Well.......we looked at it......and......

Is the suspense getting to you yet???

For the miles, and the price, THAT THING IS IMMACULATE!!!!! EVERYTHING works, the paint is nearly flawless save for one chip in the hood and one door ding on the rear passenger door. The interior is even better, just one light scratch on the driver seat. Clean, clean, clean. Drives like a dream and made me realize something.

I've been missing out!!!

So, out the door with what's almost a full 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty with tax and everything, we're in for 13,250K. Not too shabby, especially considering the KBB for a dealer is about 16.5K.

The biggest problem it had was a leaky valve cover, and the dealers mechanic started tearing into it as soon as we were done driving it to put the new style cover and new seal on.

So.........my thoughts:

Highs: Extremely nice car. Outstanding ride, extremely responsive steering, comfortable interior, nice power. Great styling too.

Lows: Brakes felt like they needed a little more stopping power (felt lacking), gauge cluster doesn't have a voltmeter or oil pressure gauge (that's gonna change), lack of interior storage space. Two of the three are going to be remedied by me though. Oh, and you can never have enough power.

Good Luck.... the car sounds like you got a great deal. I have an 01 LS8 Sport. I love it!! Very few problems. The only one I'm having now is my leaky headlights. The car is still under factory warranty, but the dealer is jerking me around. You will love this car everytime you get behind the wheel. I know I do.

It's already killing me. Sadly, I won't be driving it too much. It's more her car than mine. I get periodic priveledges. But that's not going to stop me from tinkering.

I'm still just floored at how little the car was. The place I bought it off of, the guy showed me 5 messages from that same day, and the car was up for sale for less than 24 hours. I've done some researching, and this car is aparrently fully optioned, and was a 40K+ car brand new. Which makes me wonder, why the steep depriciation on these?

i bought my car from delaware and besides the fact that i live in md they are giving me a hard time on where i had to take it to get fixed. i have a few minor problems like leaky headlightsand my driver sideseat heater doesnt work but there is no way im taking my car all the way back up to delaware to get it fixed!!

Domestic cars usually do. I knew that was going to happen when these cars first came out and figured I would actually be able to get one a few years later. :) GM cars take a big hit also. You can get one of their luxury cars with the nice Northstar for next to nothing. It is nothing against the LS. It is just how things have been for Lincoln and other domestic cars for years.

Congrats on your purchase!

Because in another 20,000 more miles it's going to fall apart on you.

I hope not... for his or my car, for that matter. It still made me laugh though. :)

What's with the falling apart comment??? Personally I've had better luck (knock on wood) buying a car with higher mileage that hasn't had a plethora of problems. If it hasn't shown major issues by 75K+ miles, it's probably going to hold up decently well. As opposed to a brand new car I bought in 99, which I later lemon lawed due to a myriad of issues starting on day one.
