I just got a 00 LS8.. the tranny was suppose to be new... Here recently when you first get the car it is really hard to get in drive.. And when you go from reverse to park it makes a loud noise.. After you drive it a bit it goes away.. anyone ever had this problem? where do I check my fluid level?

SOunds like you have a linkage issue. You might check to see if any of the linkage is binding or needs lubrication.

The LS doesn't have a tranny dipstick. The "drain plug" isn't a drain plug. That is the way you check for fluid level. The "drain" has a pipe inside that goes up into the pan to the correct fluid level. Anything above the pipe opening dribbles out. When fluid dribbles out your tranny is full. You can pump someup into the port with a hose or there is suppsed to be a fill plug on the side of the tranny. I haven't needed to do this yet so cannot say 100% where and what it looks like. I think it is on the drivers side and is back near the tail of the tranny. I would guess it is either a square plug or a square socket.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
