03+ Exhaust

Has anyone managed to improve on the sound of the 03+ exhaust and maybe improve HP? I know that the custom exhaust fabricators have concluded that the 03+ exhaust is much improved over the pre 03 exhaust and the minor improvement of a custom Cat Back system was not worth the costs, but has anyone switched mufflers? Pros? Cons?

an LLSOC member has the prototype exhaust from magnaflow - they used his car to design the unit and then dynoed it - after several attempts they could only get 5rwhp.

The sound is a little deeper.

5rwhp is pretty sad for the $600 - $900 a complete magnaflow cat-back would cost.

Still, I wonder what good flowing or complimentary mufflers would do for the 03+ exhaust. 5 rwhp for two mufflers might be acceptable, especially if the growl was improved. :wrench

well sure - moving to flowmasters and cutting out the resonators will increase the sound - maybe pick up a little hp....

I have not seen what the inside of the 04 resonator looks like, but from the outside, it looks like a modified X pipe setup. Not sure I would want to remove it, but a clean set of stainless mufflers & tips might be on the agenda someday. Although the LSE tips look good too.

I have Magnaflow mufflers and Tips. Sounds great. Never had a dyno run so I have no idea if there is a boost in HP. Probably a little. Also they weigh a ton less than the huge OEM mufflers that came out.

Which Magnaflows did you use? Street #? or Race #?

I used straight thru Magnaflow Stainless Steel mufflers. I also used Magnaflow 4" X 7" tips.
