Hi, I have a 04 V8 LS. Recently I noticed that my rear passenger wheel was getting hot after extended driving. I took it to a shop and they replaced the caliper pins and told me it should no longer be sticking. Fast forward less than a week and my wheel has still been hot after extended driving. What else could be the issue with that?

Had a couple guys at my work peak at it thinking it might be the parking break not fully releasing? Not sure where to look.

When I had a caliper slide stick, it was due to corrosion of one of the slide pins, plus the socket in the slide itself. (the dust boot had failed) I had to replace both the pins and the slide bracket. So it could be that they didn't do enough.
It could be the caliper itself (piston stuck). It's not the parking brake if it's only one rear wheel, but it could be that the piston of that caliper is adjusted out to far, which is related to parking brake function.

I assume that the obvious possibility of the tire being very under-inflated has been ruled out. I would think that any bearing or CV joint problem bad enough to heat the wheel, would have some serious other symptoms.

I just know this morning they had me turn on and off the park break and the side that gets hot they said didn’t seem to release nearly as far as the other side that is working correctly.

I had a similar problem on my 64 Galaxie with drum brakes. Left rear was "dragging". Turned out to be a bad brake hose.

The way the parking brake system works, it is pretty much impossible for it to apply more or less pressure to one side than the other. If that side is really not releasing as much, then the caliper is bad (sticking piston).

Joe, isn't it true that the parking brakes are cable operated? (My own is an '02 so I haven't experience with an '04.) If one side cable is sticky, might not that cause a drag on just one side? Am I mis-thinking this?

Yes, they are cable operated, but the cables are very short and there is an "equalizer" mounted to the axle. It's pretty hard for me to imagine a short cable sticking instead of a caliper sticking. The electronics should be able to detect any cable faults.

Well I took in back to the shop it sounded like they didn’t know what was going on so they just changed the caliper entirely. Hopefully this fixes the issue.
