Ran a WRX wit the STI front scoop and rear spoiler 0-100mph 4 times 3 times from a stop and once from a roll. This was done on a completely deserted road BTW.

WRX mods:
Turbo back exhaust, turbo downpipe all the way to muffler
Blow off valve
CAI

I was really impressed by how these cars can launch ahead like 2 car lengths right from the start. By 100mph they totally run out of juice.

1st run 0-100 from a stop. I brake torqued off the line and had a GREAT launch, so I jumped ahead pretty good. He was on my back bumper to about 60 fallin more and more behind. At 75mph he was a few cars back. 100mph was a lost cause.

2nd run was from a roll 25mph to 100mph. He kept up til about 70 and then was in my rear view falling far behind by 100mph.

3rd run 0-100 form a stop, he revved to about 4K RPM and dropped the clutch. I brake torqued but had a bad launch. He had my by 2 cars right off the bat. I caught up by 60mph. Was passing him at 80mph and was 1 car ahead of him by 100mph.

4th run 0-100 from a stop. He revved to 4K and dropped the clutch and I brake torqued with a good launch. He had me by 1 car off the line. Got door to door by 55mph and passed him by 70. Kept going to 100mph and he was about 2 cars behind by then.

Overall a fast car, but definately made to run the 1/4. The LS had a lot more power on top to keep going but who really drives that damn fast to begin with. Its hard to catch these guys to 60mph but can get them in the 1/4.

This guy also runs a 13.9 @ 96 at the track.

Let me get this straight................

He runs a 13.9 at the track, and a stock LSV8 does a high 14 low 15 quarter. You beat him 4 out of 4 races and were pulling at 100. Who the hell drives his car for him at the track to go 13.9, because he obviously does not know how to drive. There is a small WRX club in my area and these guys are running deep into the 12's with the mods that you listed. Not doubting you, because I have seen many cars win due to having a better driver, just don't want to see a bunch of LS owners with their heads hanging due to getting beat by a WRX.

He runs a 13.9@96 not an STI either
My LS runs a 14.1@99 at the track (not stock)
255/45 rubber
XCAL2 94 octane tune
Cat back Exhaust
Full CAI running to front bumper

There are 2 other members running 14.2-14.3 with their 03+ LS's

14.3 is a bone stock LS as shown here

This is a zero to 100 run, not 1/4 mile. It is possible to have a lower ET in the 1/4 and still be pulled to 100 MPH. It is all in the gearing and when/where your top end peaks:)

Thanks GWL, that was mainly my point, at 100mph the LS had a lot more top end than the WRX did. He kicked my ass off the line to about 75mph every time. If it was a 0-30mph run, I wouldnt even try, those launch like rockets off the line.

HA. Not trying to butt in but I've raced quite a few WRXs and been killed every time. Maybe the driver was the difference but I still have a couple questions. The LS reaches about 90mph (or 99 in your case) in the 1/4 mile. If it was 0-100 mph with the LS it had to be at least a 1/4 mile or more...which would give the LS an advantage of course being it has more weight and more hp.

One thing I just have to ask. I've raced my LS several times, wayyy more than I should.

What exactly do you mean by "bad launch"?

How bad does it get...all you really should be doing when you "stage" a launch or "brake torque" is hold the brake down, bring the rpms up to about 2k, let go of the brake and punch the gas. The car barely spins the tires even when I let mine rev up to 2500rpms (highest I can go) and I've noticed it really doesnt matter that much in terms of traction..

The only time I've actually had a "bad launch" is when I've ran with the trac control on or with the a/c on or I flat out wasn't ready, was this the case with your run or???

I'm mainly curious because I'm wondering what you could do wrong to make a 2 car difference right off the line (you said on the good launch you were ahead and when you had a bad launch he went ahead 2 cars...)

Are you sure his launches weren't the good/bad ones that were the difference makers?

The LS is pretty basic and consistent when it comes to running 1/4 miles but I think this may be a case like mine when I posted my wins over the mustangs.

I've been able to beat my buddies' suped up 5.0 foxbody mustangs 4/5 times on one night but only when they have a bad run (launch, shifts, etc)...with high power manuals there is a lot more room for mistakes in a 1/4 mile from a dig than with our LS's by far. The thing with the LS is that it should be much more consistent...

Of course out of the 4 races I had good/bad launches and so did the WRX. When he launched from 4K the it looked like a frog jump off the line. I did get ahead 1 time of the 4 races, that is when he had a bad launch. The rest of the time the LS was killed off the line. On average I wasnt able to catch him until 60+MPH off the line.

Heres waht I mean by a good/bad launch in the LS. You are comparing your 01 to my 04. If I brake torque as high as 2500 RPM's I will be sitting there smoking my tires. I have 255 wide tires on the back too for more traction and I can till lay rubber w/o a brake torque for a good ditance. On a good launch I dont get as much wheelspin so I have to feather the throttle more to keep the RPM's a bit down on the launch.

Overall, Im not not saying anyone including myself can beat the WRX in a typical off the line street light run to 50 or 60 MPH. I am extremely impressed with the AWD launches. But 0-100 there is much more room for a 03+ LS to catch them, but that usually isnt a practical race to begin with.

Like it was pointed out in another post..............

Your LS does a 100 MPH quarter. If you ever watch drag racing you will see that the fastest car does not always win. It is the car with the best reaction time. I was actually paying you and your car a compliment. My point was that you were obviously out classed by a faster car and you still won. I did not raise the BS flag. I was simply stating that just because you go up against a car that should be faster, you can still win.

You LS guys are a touchy bunch. Learn to take a compliment.

It can be a little hard to interpret the tone of others e-mails sometimes. It really was meant as a compliment. I have on numerous occasions taken people with my Mark that should have trounced me. I believe that as Lincoln drivers, we are more attuned to our rides and are just better drivers in general.

LOL, I was pulling out the BS flag at first because I thought it was an STI.

I ran a bone stock STI at the track and the guy ran a 13.2
the car was so new, it still had the window sticker on it.. only a couple hundred miles on the clock.

Poor car than if he is ragging it that early. I have a friend who has a fast %*($# WRX. Its an '02 and its I believe up to 700HP, converted to rwd only and some big tires at the rear. I am not sure what is extactly done to it, but whatever you can due to one I suppose. He has really deeeeeeeeeeeep pockets so that is why. When I still lived in NY I got to ride in his old porsche that did just over 200 mph, was in it the night it flipped. Thank God for the safety restraints in it we were able to walk away. He is a really awesome driver but doing 180+ and hitting a hole in the road going around a slight turn sucks.

He also has an '02 cavalier w/ almost 300HP and a Sentra SE-R Spec-V w/ about the same to the wheels. He is pretty down to earth when it comes to rides, he could own a Ferrari or anything really but doesn't care too. He prefers to take cars that most do not think are great and works w/ them to show the people what they can do. I miss him, hopping to go visit him soon though. Maybe he well let me take pics this time(pretty private dude now).
