Does anyone out there know if the axel back mufflers from a 05 Mustang GT fit the LS? I have a buddy that will be swapping out his flowmasters and I thought I'd give it a shot seeing how the 05 Mustangs and the LS platform have similarities.
Any thoughts?

thanks all

I don't know the answer to your question, maybe someone else could help you out but you can always grab a tape measure, go underneath both cars and find out if they will work or not.

So you're taking his old flos? flos only come in a few sizes, very few that is. If my book is correct you're muffs if stock are 21.5 inches long, so yes without a doubt they will fit. Rattle rattle thunder clatter boom boom boom, don't worry call the car-x man. Giggity!

I would just spend a bit more and get an aftermarket muffler. Unless you are really strapped for cash, who wants a 5 year old muffler that is not as good as a new aftermarket one?

Define "good" in this situation.:)

The stock mufflers on the S197 GTs actually flow very well, and if replaced with - let's say a Flowmaster axle-back kit - they will have zero to little gain in power.

I wanted to replace the mufflers on my LS with the stock GT mufflers, but the inlets were in the wrong locations. My dad has his pair of stock mufflers from his '08 GT sitting around and I held them up the stock LS mufflers one day, and it appeared to be a lot more trouble than it was really worth. I like the subtle sound the stock GT mufflers produce, but I guess I'll have to purchase a pair of mufflers some day. I like the Mina Gallery set, but they are far too overpriced.

I have flowmaster 40 series on mine and love the tone. I want to build a bassani cat-back with their x-pipe and mufflers though. I like the flows I have now, but I've had them for years and want a change.

Are the Flowmasters you have installed on your car just weld-in replacements for the stock mufflers or have you had additional exhaust work done?

Just some weld in mufflers. When I make the switch to bassani, I will be removing the resonators, installing a bassani x pipe, and using bassani mufflers.

I love my Flow 40's but the other day I heard a very nice LS and I asked what he had. He said that all he did was take out the rear mufflers and installed a straight pipe and new tips. He still had the stock resonators in. It had a very nice rumble to it and is super cheap to do.

Flows sound good but not good for performance. I'll be switching over to magnaflows as soon as I have enough for new cats and the install for the new exhaust. The magnaflows came in already :zgreenbou

I don't think there is any performance benefit between Flowmaster or Magnaflow when it comes to the LS's engine. The motor is to small of a displacement for the mufflers to matter. It's all about which sound you prefer more.

Alax, you're going to be very happy with the Magnaflows. They won't make as much rumble as your Flowmasters do but i personally like it better. It has more of a low tone sound to it.

I had Magnaflows in my Markviii and with the combination of gutted cats, they made significant difference in power.

The engine size isn't the factor. Whether or not an aftermarket exhaust makes more power over the factory exhaust depends on how restrictive the factory system is.

I will agree however, that changing the exhaust on a stock LS engine doesn't seem to produce sizable gains in HP & torque.

On a 2nd Gen LS it doesn't, there is a little more gain when changing a 1st Gens exaust. For 03+ they dramatically increased performance on the stock exaust from the factory. For a 2nd gen its almost just a sound mod.
