I'm thinking of buying an 06 ls v8, can anyone tell me if this is the best year to buy and what problems are there to look for. I've already owned a 98 mark V111 and absolutely loved it, sold it with 240,000 miles on it, really miss that car, so I thought i'd try an LS hopefully you can give me some insight about this model, thanks WHEELEBOB

A: 06 should have the fewest problems as they were all pretty much worked out by then.

B: this is nothing like a Mark and shares no parts with it, its mostly a jaguar.

My car before the LS was a '94 Thunderbird, essentially the same as your Mark, minus air springs and 32valve engine. It was lowered in Intrax springs, and that's about it. It handled good, no body roll.

You'll love the LS. If you're not after a bunch of horsepower mods, the LS is IMO superior. It leans a little more, but actually handles better. For me, even my first gen LS was a power increase but for you, it will be pretty even. The weights are pretty even. Better weight balance in the LS though. And the LS did a great job reducing sprung and rotational weight with aluminum control arms everywhere, knuckles, and like the Mk8, driveshaft. LS has a passive rear steering to help corning. Handling for the size is its bread and butter. If the aftermarket and ability to make it go faster was why you liked the Mark, you probably won't enjoy the LS as much... unless you your own power adder. You'll have to make custom stuff yourself though. Even with my universal nitrous kit, I had to customize the fuel pump setup.

Read the sticky threads to find out common issues. If you turn your own wrenches, most of them are easily managed.

I am on my second LS. Unfortunately, it is first gen (2001) so I have a few issues to iron out before all is said and done. But, like you should think too, if the one you are looking at was cared for, then it will be a great car. BTW I only let the first go due to 3.5 years of unemployment.

IMO you should also go for it, since it seems you are a Lincoln fan. Last decent car they made before turning 'Japanese'. We shall see with the new Continental. These are certainly addictive to drive.

I have an '06 and it is my 3rd. I had a 2000 then a 2003 then had this one purchased at auction. I am a charter member in LSOC and even have a hat, ( big whoop). This site is both a master LS mechanic and the best tool in your box. I only have 85,000 on my current one and if you read the stickies its like going to a natural History Museum.
There may be some lemons out there but all of mine have been progressively better. I even raced it in SCCA at one point. As well, I recruit Dr's and pick them up at the airport for client hospitals, so I'd say its a well rounded vehicle. Learn to change coils and get a code reader, then come here. You may even learn to DIY on some issues and can get tips for customizing. After 16 years in an LS, I'd say def go for an '06 and the premium sound, for sure.
