Hi folks...
I'm a low volume poster for sure but lurk through LVC every few weeks. Many thanks to everyone for sharing their ideas and opinions on things. Wanted to give an update for the 06 LS that I have had about 16 months now. I've put about 40K miles on it since acquiring it.
I'm the second owner, the original owner turned it into the leasing Lincoln dealer after the lease term, the Lincoln dealer sold it at auction to a Nissan dealer and I bought it from the Nissan dealers used car lot. Got an extended warrenty to 100K miles with the purchase and immediately used that to address several minor items the original owner neglected fixing under the new car warrenty and one major item to replace the soliniods in the transmission.
About 12 months ago, I was driving down the interstate and had a gawd awful banging on the windshield. Turned out that black plastic cowling just below the windshield was loose and the wind was making it flap and bang. Made a half ass, bandaid level repair by getting a couple of large binder clips out of my briefcase and using these to clamp the cowling down under the hood so the air wouldn't get under it so easily. Turned out that a couple of the plastic fasteners that hold the cowling in place were busted and this allowed air to get under the cowling. It had been like this for some time and had put a warp into the cowling that eventually became severe enough to allow the flapping and whacking. Extended warrenty called this a body part so excluded it from coverage there. I tried a couple of ghetto repairs and after a couple of failures on these bought some black Gorilla duct tape and taped cowling tight to the windshield. Going to be interesting getting that tape off when I need to replace the cabin air filter!
This winter, the defroster vents quit working. The extended warrenty paid off on replacing two solinoid actuators at about $600 parts and labor. Everything worked great for a week then the defroster vents went out again. Back to the dealer and turned out that the damper flaps had fallen apart and had to replace the entire air plenum. They had the car for 7 days (mainly waiting on parts) with me in a rental car and about a $1600 parts and labor bill to the warrenty company.
Basicly, the car has had two major repairs in right at 80K miles. Others have been trivial. For a vehicle this sophisticated, that is probably not completely out of line although it would definately be better to have none.
Have about 30K miles on Kumbo Exacta LS Platnium tires in the OEM size. A very predictable, solid tire. Just now, the wear is getting to the point that I have to pay closer attention to hydroplaning in them. Handling is tight and comfortable. Especially in the winter, they do tend to flat spot over night and can be a bit rough at highway speed until they warm up.
