:slam I have had my mark for 5 years, bought with 36k now have 93k miles. I never had a shift problem at all. Even after adding a chip I had no problems. I didn't find out about the 1-2 problem till after my 60k service and figured I would do it next time. Well, next time was here and had it done. The springs were broken but luckly the bores were ok. I don't see any difference with the 1-2 upgrade in shift quality but I have read about the damage it can do. The lesson is: regardless of how it shifts, get to 1-2 upgrade done!

some people like the smooth but present feel.the reason for the repair is so the piston bore dosnt get to scorn ,then have to sleeve it or replace the case.it is defanitly a must do with shiftkits or without. bypassing 1-2 will send the trans to an early grave. :give

The upgrade is required. Did the 2/3 accumulator, new cup in & spring out, as well, plus the J-Mod, that's where the improvement comes in. On mine I did the 300hp or mild mod, the shifts are punctual & only aggrevate my better half if I punch it, so I don't. The advantage to the J-Mod is less heat i.e. wear on the tranny with each shift. Not that hard to do yet worth it if you like to tinker. Ed :Beer

good point. you choose when you beat on your stuff. dont do it ,but can if you want

This is what happened to my piston when I discovered it that was the least of my problems.
