After driving about 20 miles yesterday, when I got out of the car I noticed a bit of a burning brake smell. Sniffed around and noticed that the left rear wheel was a lot hotter than the other three.

I think I read somewhere that Advance Trac works by applying the rear brakes as needed. So on the way home I figured I'd turn it off and check the wheel. Got no response from pushing the Advance Trac button; typically get a beep and a message on the dash that it has been turned off. At home, the left rear wheel was again hotter than the other three.

So, any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Not sure about the Advance Trac. Maybe check the fuses. I'm sure if it wasn't working you would have a light on on the dash. As far as the brakes it sounds like the pads are sticking. You probably should take that wheel apart and clean the slides and put some anti-sieze on there. Hopefully that helps.

I had the same problem and it was my emergency brake sticking. The caliper slides also tend to lock ip in the caliper mount.

Posting from the future. Awesome.

Anyway, it does sound like your slide pins are probably sticking on that caliper. I'd check them soon before your pad wears down and starts to eat your rotor.

That would be my bet too. (It's not going to be AdvanceTrac related.)

I had this same problem today. Left rear wheel was smoking hot after driving. Took the tire off and noticed the pads were eating the rotor. Caliper was sticking too. I removed the brakes and turned the caliper the wrong way. Had to get a bucket to catch the brake fluid that came out when the caliper came off. After screwing the caliper back on and replacing everything to its original state my brakes are not working and the check Advancetrac light is on. Can anyone offer any suggestions to fix this issue? New caliper maybe? Or bigger issue?

did you bleed the brakes after replacing the caliper? new rotor and pad?

No I did not bleed the brakes.

No offense here, but you don't need to be working on brakes without someone who knows what they are doing guiding and teaching you. This is not just your safety involved, but everyone around you as well.

That is actually terrifying. You dropped the piston out and lost fluid and didn't think to replace fluid and bleed? You likely have air in at least that line, and depending how many times you were pumping the brakes, it is probably elsewhere.

hell, even watching one or two videos from YouTube University would have shown the correct way to not turn your car into a two ton missile...
