Hi all, does it sound right that the rear brakes on a 03LS8 would need to be replaced 15,000 miles and 12 months after they had been replaced before? That's seems like an excessively short life -- especially since we don't ride the brake pedal or anything...

Thanks for you input,
Alex

yes sounds like you have another problem. on most cars, rears can last the life of the car. the ls has quite a bit more rear braking dialed in but not to wear out in 15k. sounds like you have a problem with your master cylinder, calipers, or the electronic parking brake system is some how out of adjustment (not sure how it adjusts).

My 03 LSV6 required new rear brake pads at about 26K miles. As Beaups said, the LS brake distribution is biased towards the rear for performance reasons, so its typical to see these cars requiring rear pads before the fronts. In fact, my front pads were never replaced, but the rears were.

However, that said, you may have a different problem than simple wear. I and others here have had a sticky rear caliper which can cause the pads to wear prematurely. The electronic parking brake may also be causing the problem. Its definitely worth having the dealer check your problems out, particularly because many brake items, including pads, are covered by warranty.

If you're a hard driving man, then its likely that your advancetrac probably wore out your rears. They get used more than the fronts by the advancetrac to keep you from spinning the wheels and to keep you in a straight line. If you are a conservative driver then you probably have a caliper problem. Lincolnlov

You guys are awesome -- thanks for the great info! I drive pretty hard when the baby's not in the car, otherwise I drive like grandma -- and most of the miles are highway miles. I'll be sure to have them check out calipers, parking brake, etc.

The front/rear brakes weren't covered under warranty when I had them replaced a year ago. Should they have been?

Thanks all,
Alex

that depends if u had on 02 the warranty should of covered it for 3yrs./36000I got my pads and rear calipers covered :) :) the 03+'s were covered a lot less.
