1991 LTC - AOD Transmission Mysterious Failure

I know it may sound ridiculous, here is story.

I've replaced an entire engine on my 1991 LTC and when we were attaching new engine to transmission accidently transmission's stator support shaft was broken (cracked at its base inside AOD xmission).

I've had another spare AOD unit taken off another 91 LTC, which was parted last year, and this car was fully driveable and replacement engine came off that vechicle too.

So we've replaced AOD with broken stator support shaft with this second, spare transmission. But torque converter remained the same.
When being road tested, car drives at Reverse and in all Direct modes, BUT ONLY in First Gear - NO 1-2 shif  at any speed. Playing with TV cable did not have any influence at all. Car accelerates on first gear just fine (I did not try over 35 mph), but there is no engine braking nor upshift(s) when throttle is backed off. ATF level is fine.
Again, this particular AOD unit was fully fine on another car and it was never opened.

Next day, we've taken this transmission off, opened its front cover, took off Stator Support and put it on my generic AOD transmission.
Put it today on the car, still with generic torque converter and took a road test. Picture was completely the same  - Reverse and Drive, but only on a first gear. No upshifts at all!
Exactly same failing behaviour of two AOD units, which were completely fine and never ever failed on both cars.

So, the question is - what could the trouble be?
Can this be in Torque Converster? Could it be damaged when stator shaft was?
What would be a flowchart to get it diagnosed?

Give me any idea, please.
