Hello this is my first day on in the so please excuse any mistakes and the lengthy question. I own a 1993 lincoln continetal and i'm having problems with a beeping sound. I can be driving down the road and all of a sudden the oil pressure gauge drops and the beeping starts. During seperate (could be within 2 minutes) instances the message display side of the digital dashboard goes blank and the beeping starts. it beeps and beeps and beeps and then all of a sudden the all the information comes back MPG DTE etc and the beeping stops. A local mechanic changed what he called the computer cluster but this didn't do the trick. Another mechanic changed the "oil sending switch and this has cut down on the beeping but hasn't stopped it. The beeping is worse when i drive on short trips as opposed to on long trips. the car has 87000 miles on it and drives great so i really want to fix it. Thanks

instrument cluster

Had the same problem. It is usually caused by oxidation on the contacts where the wiring harness plugs iinto the instrument cluster.

If it beeps continually and shows low oil pressure, reset the gauge to see your water temp if you are concerned that the block is overheating. Essex engines have a nasty habit of blowing headgaskets and warping the heads when they overheat.

I have a diagram showing how to take the cluster out and clean it somewhere. I'll try to find it for you.

BTW...My Conti has 124K and is a daily driver. My Cherokee is too thirsty.
