I have a 1994 mark 8, owned for 13 years, been sitting for about half of that, the expensive problems should explain that. It's been sitting for 4 years in the driveway waiting for me to find the time to fix her. I decided it's time! I finally fixed the oil filter housing gasket, upper control arms, stabilizer bar end links and head lights, everything's quite up front now and I can see! Then I moved to the back end....OH NO! what am I in for? Upper shock mounts and bushings will be here tomorrow. Both sub-frame brackets are rusted bad! but still holding. My question is.....what if the brackets rusted through? wouldn't the 15mm bolts still hold the sub-frame in? Bushings are still good. I already have a bunch of money in this car. Front air struts, pump, dryer, fuel pump, tires, brakes, radiator, etc...etc. Dealer say's brackets are $22 each but the bushings are $500, not to mention the work involved, I do all the work on this car myself. Overall car is in good shape, in and out! Pics to come if needed! Any comments will be welcomed!!

Thanx for the welcome everyone....I also have another question. Just replaced rear shock mounts and all is quite in back once again. What do the back shocks do? They hook up to a solenoid of some sort. Are they adjustable some how? I heard you can set them for a hard or soft ride, is this right? If so how do you adjust them? Probably time for new ones but....should I go with factory shocks or find something cheaper that just bolt in and remove solenoid. I'm trying to keep this car as original as possible which is why I went with new air struts instead of coil over springs. Pushing 192K and still runs straight and strong, no vibrations at any speed. Only thing left is paint
 
that solenoid firms up the rear shocks under hard braking to stop the front from diving.
they ditched them mid 94, so you must have an early 94.

mine are not hooked up, as i have stiff mustang shocks. and they are in my tool box.

buy some quality thunderbird shocks and call it a day.

well done on keeping the air ride. i'll be keeping mine until i can't get parts anymore. (which may not be too far off.)

Thunderbird? What year? Do they use the same shock mounts? Would I just leave the solenoids hanging in the trunk? If the solenoids aren't hooked up what would happen? Sorry for the questions but I never replaced an original part with something from a different car before. The right shock is stiffer then the left, but both need replaced. Planning to give this car to my son for a Graduation gift, I need this car to be solid....so far so good! and almost done. Car needs paint but runs and drives like new (and very quite ride now), everything inside works and looks good, nothing broke, ripped or torn, bought this when it was 5 years old, when something went bad I replaced it. So far the only thing aftermarket is the CD player. Bushings on sub-frame are still good and brackets are ordered, the 15mm bolts are gonna come out one way or another....lol. Nothing is lowered or altered, it's all still factory.
 
For the rear shocks on the perimeter, try Koni 8041-1202SPORT. They are FULLY adjustable from soft to firm for rebound characteristics.
 
Thanx for all the info guy's! I ran across this site when I started fixing everything, everyone here has been very helpful, I'll let you know what I do with the rear shocks. You may not see me but I will be reading every post! BTW all your Mark's look real nice! I like them all.
