Hi all,

I just bought a '97 Deville Concours on Sunday and am having problems with it already.

Problem #1 - Turn signals are only working intermittently. When the lever is moved to signal either a right or left turn, the indicator light will flash 0 - 5 times and then go out. Applying the brakes seems to stop the flashing immediately. Is this likely a combo-switch problem? The dealer has agreed to fix them so repair costs don't appear to be an issue for me at this time.

Problem #2 - Drivers side window has stopped working. All other windows operate from the drivers door switches normally. Could this be related to the t/s problem or is it more likely to be unrelated?

Other than those 2 problems, I am enjoying this car much more than the '96 Seville STS I bought 2 1/2 weeks ago and am already looking to sell.

Could be the switch. Could also be as simple as a blown bulb or a bad flasher (the turn signal and hazard lights use seperate flashers by the way). If the hazards work correctly and all bulbs work, check the flasher for the t/s. If that is bad, I would guess the switch. But check the other things first. (But there could always be a damaged wire or socket creating an open circuit, but that is more rare then the other things listed above)

Window is either a faulty switch, or a bad motor in that window more then likely. Check the contacts on connectors and make sure they are plugged in and clean. If the window will not work from the master switch or the one on its own door, you can remove the door panel and check for power at the motor while operating the switch. If power is present at the motor and no worky, then the motor is bad. If power is not at the motor, make sure there is power at the switch. If there is power at the switch and not at the motor, switch is bad or an open circuit is present. My guess is a bad motor, but that gives you an idea of how to check it yourself if you would like. (binding in the track/regulator can sometimes be the problem, as the motors do have circuit breaker in each one, but that is usually not the problem).

Just to keep everyone informed, it turned out to be the t/s flasher had gone bad. A little cheaper than the combo switch in the column.

This seems to be the motor has gone bad. Thankfully, I bought a warranty when I bought this car so it will be covered except for a $100 deductible.

Thanks for all the help!

Always good when just the flasher. I figured you had a bad window motor too. They just do not make these things very well. My 03 durango had a motor go out in a window with 35k on the truck. Unreal. Glad to see you got it all worked out.

BTW when I typed "If that is bad, I would guess the switch" , I meant if that (flasher) was not bad, then I would guess the switch. I type too fast for my own good anymore.....lol. But I am sure you understood. Just a rule of thumb, I always check the cheapest things first anyway and easiest to change.....lol. Congrats on figuring it out and on your 'new' car.
