I have a 1999 Lincoln Continental w/ 79k miles that I bought in early november, and unfortunately it hasn't been the pinnacle of reliability since its purchase. Since purchasing it, I've had to replace the power steering pump, plugs and wires, and just about a week ago the water pump went. Since the most recent repair the Conti has been stalling when I put it into park after driving any distance. It seems to be idling fine, no warning lights have been coming on, and it hasn't stalled while in any other gear. Anyone know what the problem might be?

I'm sorry to hear about your frustration with your Continental, but I think you just got the bad seed in the bunch or the previous owner was just negligent to her. These cars are pretty reliable and have a really good consumer rating which helped me in buying mine, but buying any used car is a gamble. How is it shifting? Has it been stalling every time you go to put it into park or periodically? Does it accelerate fine or is it bucking? The car can still throw codes without lights appearing so, to start off, your best bet is to use a scan tool to check if any codes are being thrown. I mean, from what you've described, the root of your problem sounds like it's coming from the IAC, but the scan tool is your starting point and answer. Maybe someone at some point will chim in with their knowledgeable experiences, but let me know what you find out.

Good luck.

ended up only being a clogged idle air control valve. I brought it to the dealer and they were able to remove the carbon buildup, didn't even charge me. After dealing with stalling issues on other cars that ended up being expensive fixes I'm just glad it wasn't anything major!

Yep, that's what I thought it was. Now, with that aside, how is your continental running? Got pics?
