I am on the market for a set of wheels for my 95 MK8. In order to make sure the wheels tuck when the suspension is aired out I want a 20x8" or 22x8" wheel. Im gonna order my wheels from a supplier that makes wheels to order so lug pattern is not an issue. If any of you are still on air with 20s or 22s post some pics and lmk the specs on your wheels. BTW Im in So Cal...we dont raise our cars up in the air and put big rims on it....we tuck tire and scrape frames ;)

i don't like 20s.

if you run a 35 mm offset, an 8 inch wide wheel and a stock height 245 tire, you'll be fine. should be fine even lowered.
your suspension and brakes will wear faster, so be prepared for that as well.

my car is lowered 2.5 inches and I run 19x8s. only problem I have had is 255 40s on the front rub on the upper ball joints when I hit a bump. I tried 235 35s but it looks funny. they are a little too skinny for my taste but no rubbing.

yup, that's because 255/40-19 is too tall of a tire.

27" tall instead of 26.6" tall.

If they rub the upper ball joints on bumps there is a whole other issue there......The wheel shouldn't move independently of the spindle.

I have had 20's on mine for years. No problems yet. Not that low though. I would like to drop about another inch.

wheels shouldn't, but tires do move around some on the wheel... granted its not much.
he may need wheel bearings. which wouldn't be surprising running 20s.

the tire was close to the ball joint to begin with. With a driver and a passenger in the car I had about enough room to put a penny in between the tire and the ball joint. So instead of giving a in depth report on what I thought was going on. I will just blamed it on bumps. Is that okay. we don't need to go to much into it. I was just giving my 0.02 cents on tire size and my experience with 19s and 255 40s.

Must be an offset issue then as I am running the same size and have never rubbed anything.

maybe. I don't know. Im not going to mess with the 19s for awhile. I will be running my stockers for now. Im too busy with my other project(s). I think the offset is 38. It might be 39, 40, 5,000,000 I don't remember. lol.

I don't have any wheel bearing issues. No on suspension issues. but the upper ball joint that are on my car do stick out quite a bit. I changed all my suspension parts 4 years ago. I don't remember what parts I used.

20s. Could have used more meat on the tires, but no issues with rubbing, etc. And the ride was rather nice.

Thanks. Not sure what ever happened to the rims. The Mark, though, crushed at a yard in Chicago just before the engine was rescued by someone.

this is my 97, still has stock air ride but its turned off. they are 20x8's with a 225/35 tire. no rubbing, i drive it daily just like this.

yup. do you feel like you are driving a dump truck?
cuz you are just bouncing off the bump stops all the time.

if you say otherwise, well, i just don't believe you.
