I was thinking of getting a used 2003+ Lincoln LS, primarily because my sister drives a Mark VIII which I've driven before, and it's great, and it's been very reliable. On the other hand, my dad has been driving a Deville for some time now, and it's given him a lot of trouble, oil leaks, etc... However, I really like the Seville interior over that of the LS, and it doesn't take premium!, and it drives great, but I'm still nervous about Caddy's reliability problems. Since I graduated from college a few years back, this is my first car, and I'd like something fun to drive, and reliable!

According to msn, the chief problems are with the engine and transmission, which sound pretty costly. What have been your experiences so far?

Thanks in advance!

If reliability is your # 1 concern. Go with Lexus, or go with a Town Car. LS isn't known for having a good reliability rating. You can get one that will last but then again you can get one that will pop a tranny by 90k.

Well, I'd like to buy domestic, and I don't want to drive a huge boat. :) How's the Seville's reliability?

Here in lies the problem many people buy a car like a cadi, lincoln, lexus, honda etc for reliability. By that I mean they want a car they can neglect and still last through their ownership problem free. So what you really want is a car with a good maintnance record. Low milage is near meaningless as sitting is just as bad though usually worse. Like for example a higher milage car which even if driven "spiritadly" had its fluids changed, tuneups, alignments etc... I thought I remenber on this forum someone asking about the reliability of the northstar espically on an sts. Replies said as long as espically the coolant was changed as called for as well as oil and trans fluids they last well. But if not espically coolant i believe was mentioned problems can occur. Do a search and you should find it. I'd say rwd alone is more likely to further than a fwd durabilty wise with identical driving habits. I do prefer ford and espically domestic but I do like the styling, power of a cadi and wouldn't worry as long as maintance was done. If a car has sat and fluids weren't changed they can tar up or form a residue, gaskets become brittle and may leak once driving is resumed and espically when pushed after sitting for so long. When if the car were driven the whole time it would have been fine.

Thanks- I've checked through the five pages, and most of the problems seem to be for pre: 2000 year Sevilles. Not sure if the more recent Caddy's still have oil leaking, or engine/transmission problems.

i absolutely love the 93-97 sts ive wanted one of those since high school, but reliability issues alone are the reason i will never buy one to depend on as my daily driver. if i were to buy cadillac it would be post 03 with the 3rd generation n* in it.
that being said, i havent had too much luck with lincoln. my 90 towncar cost me more a month in repairs that i pay a month on my new one now. but thats not lincolns fault, thats due to the f*cktards that owned the car before me who neglected to take care of it, other than physical maintenance.

i would definately take 03 caddy over 03 lincoln. lincolns biggest perk in my opinion is rwd. cadillac seems to be redeeming themselves and my next car(if i dont buy a new f350) will be a caddy.
