2000 lincoln ls 3.9 owner, Looking to put in a newer 2003-06 3.9 engine into it since it has more hp and tq due to the variable valve timing. Wanted to see if anyone has info on what all I would need to do or switch to make it work. Also to see what parts are interchangeable.

thanks

bill

I can tell you it's not worth your time. WAY too much money for an extra 30 horses. Throw some nitrous at it and call it a day :D

Or get a hold of camthman. He's got a rear mount turbo he needs to sell.

Two different controlling computer language with 1st gen and 2nd gen.

there are seven different modules in the LS - communicating together. The Gen1 uses ODBII, while the Gen2 uses the newer CAN. Conversion would be a major effort - most of the modules, engine, trannie, fan, wiring, e-brake, gauge cluster, throttle (since Gen2 is throttle by wire), The Gen2 even uses a different diff - not sure that matters for an engine swap - but alot of differences.

Not worth it. Buy a GenII if you want that engine. If you want more power from the Gen1 3.9 you can buy an XCAL flash tuner which is proven by many here to bring out quite a few extra horses.

Of course you can. Pretty much the only thing you'll change is the sound though.

+1

2nd gen exhaust is more efficient than 1st gen, changing out 2nd gen to after market exhaust little gain other than sound.

Well yes I knew it could be changed for sound, but from what I've read Lincoln already changed the exhaust from the first gen so that they could get the most horsepower out of it which is one of the reasons for the higher hp rating on the 2nd gen.

So, if I decided to do the X pipe, it wouldn't help much? Cause I'm considering X pipe and Borlas.

It would really help the sound. I've never heard (in person) an x pipe on this V8, but the videos sound very nice. Borla is a good choice. That was actually my first pick. But to answer your question, I don't think you'll net any noticeable hp gain.

Well, in with opinion, I'd like to hear NYC LS8's opinion too, I'll probally skip the X and just get Borlas. I'm gonna try to get them and intake at the same time.

4th mainly because of sound/tone. I will say that with the Bassanis on the car now, it seems more responsive from a dead stop. Weird, seeing as how they're pretty much a straight-through design since you can see daylight on the other end of the muffler.

Get the X pipe - sounds far better than without.

Buy My Turbo!!!!! :):)

If I didnt care about my warranty, I would.:burnout:

NYC, I'll have more questions when I get closer to doing it. But it'll be a while. Too many things right now. In the next 4 months I have Xmas and Birthday for the Fiance', Xmas and Birthday for my niece, and re-financing the house.

I deleted the rear mufflers, and put 4"x18" Magnaflow stainless tips inplace. Sounds great helped mileage a lil bit. as for power im sure it added 3 or 5 but not enough to notice. ill try to get a video up sometime before cold hits
