Ok.... I have been informed that this topic is a "take it to the dealer" topic.... I find it crazy that ford made it so you can program an additional key to your LS yourself but you can not program an additional key fob? WTF..... I am hoping that someone may have found a work around for this.... or do I just have to take the car to a dealer and pay them to program my key fobs? Has anyone had any success with the ForScan program with an ELM27?

Yes, that does seem crazy, but they did (at least) correct this by the 2003 model year.

You can program a key if you have two working and not cloned keys. If you don't have two keys, you need a locksmith or dealer. The Gen1 will always require a locksmith or dealer to add remotes. The end-user can also do it but you need programming software tool and a connection to your OBDII Port. Some have used ForScan, a USB OBDII Connection and a laptop or Smartphone. I found a local locksmith, after calling around, that added two remotes and a key for just $45. I then added another key so that I have three. The $45 I spent was far less than what a dealer will charge.

I bought two remotes on EBay for about $15 and two keys for less than $10.

called dealer in my area, Jack Gosch Ford, Hemet Ca. quoted $58 for the FOB. said the car had to be at the dealer to program.

For a dealer, that seems reasonable. Get all the Keys & FOB's you want added at that time. I suggest at least three each. Of course, if you have two working keys then you don't need the dealer to add a third.

And you MUST bring all your existing keys and fobs....

is that just for the fob? my local dealers charge $60 to program as many keys or fobs as you would like on top of the cost for each fob or key.

My dealer includes programming with purchase of a key or fob from them.

Yes, it's annoying that Gen 1s can't program their own fobs. Newer LSes can, older Ford can, so I'm guessing it was an oversight, a mistake, or some Jaguar related user lockout
