Hi I have a 2000 LS V8 with about 47,000 miles on it For the past month or so it's been indicating that it's overheating. I checked the coolant level and it's fine. When it says it's overheating and goes though it's "reducing engine power" phase if I turn the car off and right back on the temp. guage shows the temp. as normal. If the engine was really overheating wouldn't the guage still show that the engine is hot? I just drove my car about 2 miles to the store and it "overheated" again and this time the check engine light came on. I guess I'll have to empty my wallet and take it to the dealer on Mon. Just wondering if anyone here knew what could be causing this? Could it be a computer issue?

To be more specific on what happens:

While driving the car everything is fine until I start to here a "whirring" noise (maybe the cooling fan?). The the temp. guage starts to rise all the way up and the car goes through it overheating protection phase. I pull over and turn the car off and right back on and everything is fine again until it happens again.

Yes, I did do a forum search for the problem but I couldn't find much besides "possible bad radiator cap" or "temp sensor malfunction."

Overheating

I had the exact problem about a month ago. Problem was the thermostat. Depending if the check engine light turned, you'll need to go to the dealership or if you know someone to reset the light. Actually, I thought it was the hydraulic motor for the fan.

I've had this exact same problem happen twice in the past two weeks. Happened two weeks ago and the car was fine up until today. I drive it daily.

Any thoughts? I know the typical degas, t stat, plastic cooling parts.

I have a new thermostat and Jag thermostat housing already so that will be put in.
