Engine will turn over but will not start. After a moment of trying I can smell gas, It seems to be turning over fast..Almost like low compression.
70,000 mi plus..
Any ideas?

Trey

Does it ever start? It could be fuel related such as a clogged fuel filter, leaky injector or other.

Yea less than 9 hr prior I moved it and all was well, Also my wife tells me that it sounded fine on the first turn of the key and it did not start right a way, then the next turn of the key it start mis behaven...

Mine did the same thing a few weeks ago, I held the pedal to the floor & it started right up, haven't had a problem since.

Try getting it jumpstarted, if that works, then just replace the battery.

It's a sealed battery, I tryed a jump box and it almost started, charged it all night and it just did start so a battery I will install, Interstate tells me it's a dealer part only $85 in columbus, GA....

I tried charging my battery overnight, too and it did work for the first start-up. After that, the battery couldn't hold the charge and I needed a jumpstart everytime. If you can't get to Columbus any time soon, go ahead and get an Everstart MAXX from Wal-Mart - everybody here hates it b/c of battery gases, but I've had it in my car since 9/05 and haven't had any problems. The vented battery is a dealer part, but most people here are running the Optimas and they're not vented either. It's around $70 at Wal-Mart.

The battery may be dying now...but it doesn't sound like your problem. Charge the battery. If it sounds like it's low on compression, try taking a compression reading...at least a couple on each side. I've never heard of it happening on one of these, but it truly sounds like you may have broken a timing chain. (low compression sound)

I said low compression because heck I never heard the car turn over because the thing usually starts right up (appears normal as is), plus the thing is turning over fine just won't start so the compression thing is just my ignorance. I have never have had a car that would turn over that well and not start..These new fangled cars....

also going to Columbus is no big deal also I think $85.00 ain't that bad for a sealed bat. which I think is necessary in trunk location.

Is the dealer selling you a sealed battery w/out a vent? Keep us updated. There has been some debate on here that only a vented battery should be used. The one I have in my trunk is sealed. (Everstart)

I will let you know But I guess they know best, and seems the only place to get it...The one thats in it is sealed with the dot on top to tell you it's status. Mine is red for dead...Looking for one with a green dot.....For good to GO...

Old battery has vent and so does the new one...And they put a little hose in there to attach to battery just for this purpose...Did not see it till I started to remove it.

New battery and Car Starts...:)
