I have a 2000 Lincoln Towncar with a problem. It idles very high. I pulled codes P0102 and P1504. I disconnected the connector that is on the sensor that is located on the air tube between the air filter box and the actual air intake of the engine. I do not know what this part is called, but the GM equivalent, I believe, would be called the "mass air flow sensor". Anyway, this caused the idle to drop to a point where the car intermittenly misses. I do not condone "masking" problems by disconnecting sensors, yet I believe that this might be my problem. The part costs 200 dollars, and I am sorry, but I forgot what Ford called it. So I reconnected it, but can't deal with the high idle any longer. I would like to know if my hunch is correct. The dealer says nothing of cleaning the "tube" that the sensor is mounted to. But that is the way the part is sold, and I have heard through "alley mechanics" that this is sometimes the correct fix. I checked the sensor for an "open" condition, which it did not have, otherwise I had no other indication as what the sensor was telling me. I checked the connector for reference voltage, key on, ignition off. I did get a reference voltage, but it was very low. I checked for vacuum leaks, and I did not find any that I know of. The car has 150,000 hard driven miles. I would be grateful if you could e-mail me suggestions. I am sorry, but at this point, all I can offer in return is Caddy/GM advice, but I have a world of that knowledge if needed!
