Yeah, what dipstick.
Supposedly to check fluid level you remove the drain plug. If fluid comes out then you are full, really. If fluid does not come out, you need to pump some in until it does come out. Kind of like checking differential fluid. There is a pipe on the inside of the drain hole that rises up into the tranny pan to the correct fluid level, when the fluid is above that pipe, it dribbles out. What I forget is whether this is supposed to be done with the engine running like normal trannies. I bet not, but haven't looked at the manula lately.
You can use a hand pump with a hose to pump it into the drain plug or there is supposed to be a fill plug somewhere on the tail housing.
I am not sure I like this dipstickless design. I like to check fluid regularly.
With the LS this may be very important since many of our trannies, including mine had problems with harsh and or irratic shifting, which often was because of "burn't or dirty fluid. Mine needed a mini rebuild at about 15,000 miles. Because of this, I am nervous about these trannies and I would like to be able to check regularly.
Good Luck,
