Hey everyone,
I just recently went on a trip and my window took a dive on me. I was traveling down the road and I tried to roll up my front driver side window. It was nearly all the way up then there was a loud pop followed by my window sliding down inside of the door. Lucky for me my widow did not break, but it was no longer working. I was able to fish the window out of the door and hold it in place with some tape for the time being and let me tell you white trash never looked so good. After doing a little bit of research on this site I was able to find out that my problem is a broken window regulator. So my question to you all is, should I replace the regulator myself or should I have the dealer do it for me? I don't have a bunch of tools, I really don't have a lot patience, and I also have an extended warranty with a $50.00 deductable that I purchased when I bought the vehicle. What should I do and how much should I anticipate this to cost me? Please help!!!! Thanks!!!!

go with the warranty i did. the regulators around $100 (i'm not sure), but i heard people paying around $175 to get it fixed. so i had my warranty cover it. and thats why you buy the warranty anyways so use it.

Given what you've said, for $50, it's a no-brainer. Take it in.

Thanks guys. How difficult is it to replace it? How difficult is it to pull off the door panel?

Dealer parts

I got the regulator from the local dealer for $58. It took about an hour to install the new one. Simple to install, if you have the right tools. The use the Ford star pattern bolts to hold the motor on, use might use something else to pry them loose. There is a round sleeve and center plug that goes thru the window itself. Some people have trouble putting it it. Put the sleeve thru first, use the flat side of a screw driver and your fingers to push the sleeve in, then put the plug it with the beveled edge into the sleeve first, again use the flat side of a screw driver and fingers to push the plug into the sleeve, really a no brainer. Just be careful with the door plastic rivets so you don't brake them. Test the window before you close up the door!

Do oyu have a part number for the regulator?

If you have a warranty with a $50 deductible, and don't have the time/patience or the tools, definitely have the dealer do it.

FYI, the plastic clips on the regulators are the parts that break. In the revised designs, the plastic clips are replaced with metal which are less likely to break.

Is there a how to, to fix the window yourself. I have taken the door panel off many times, so thats no problem. I just dont know how to get to the regulator thing.

yeah i'll be doing this too once the part gets here...if you have the service manual theres some nice pictures but i doubt u have it if your posting here
