I have recently replaced the front rotors/brake pads & wheel/hub assemblies on my 2001 LS. I have 2 problems since doing this. One, the passenger side brakes squeal really loud while braking. Second, I get a really bad pulsation when stopping from the 45-65 mph range. The pulsation is there at the lower speeds, but very mild compared to the higher speeds. I did the work myself, and not being Mr. Goodwrench, is there something I could have missed while doing the work. I made sure all bolts were tight and snug. The brakes and rotors are the 2nd set in the last 4 months, the first set were returned thinking they were bad. Is there any thing special that should have been done while reconnecting the ABS wire on the wheel/hub assemblies? Any help would be appreciated before I get desperate enough to take it to a dealer. The brake pads and rotors are Raybestos, so if any one has had bad results using this brand of brakes, that would be nice to know as well.

I'll be going with Raybestos Professional grade rotors and pads in a few months time. As far as I can tell by the research I've done, they are a very reputable and good quality brand.

Ok

I've got an 01 with 123k on the original rotors, replaced all the pads with Napa ceramics, great pads, no squeal.

could this be a tire or wheel problem? does it pulsate only with brakes applied?

Jack the front end up and spin the tires, do they spin without effort or do the brakes drag it to a stop?

we can't tell if you missed something in your assembly, but you might have over torqued the bolts.

you may have gotten some bad rotors, or warped them.

I shy away from Raybestos products.

i got a squeal from my front pads too, changed rotor and pags with duralast, i also have a chirping noise and i think its coming from passenger side

I too have a lovely chrip. It has gotten progressively so loud that I can't tell which side it's coming from anymore. Stops as soon as I touch the brake pedal (enough to trigger the lights).

Tireman: any reason in particular why you dislike Raybestos products?

It looks like you only did the front disc brakes and not the rears. Rear disc brakes can develop pulsation just like the fronts.

Brake pulsation is only going to occur for several reasons: There is a thickness variation in the rotor; There is a hard spot in the rotor; Sliding pin or pad hang up and not fully releasing (not the same as a piston hang-up) causing a hot (thicker) region on the rotor.

Chirping from non-applied brakes is caused by the pad lightly touching the rotor while the vehicle is moving. The pad is not clamped to hold it in place so it vibrates easily and noise is generated. As above, this can be from aftermarket pads not moving freely in the brakes or slight stiction of slide pin(s).

Applied brake noise can be multiple reasons. If an aftermarket pad, the noise insulator is generic and may not be the best choice for the application. The friction material may not be the best choice for the application, not having the correct density or stiffness. Or the aftermarket pad may not have the correct geometric configuration to alter the rotor frequency nodes. That can be chamfers, slots, or any other physical change. It get funkier if the rotor is an aftermarket rotor with different vane configuration or mass then the OE, which will change the natural harmonics of the rotor and it's nodes.

For those with chirp, check that the pads and slide pins move freely.

For the pulsation with two front rotor changes, you may need new rear rotors.

new rotor chirp on steroids!!!

I got a 05' ls v6. origanlly my front passenger brakes started chirping, i could just touch the brake pedal a little and it would quiet down almost all the way. ok good, new pad time, while im at it change the rotors too. only 4 bolts to take everything off whaaat easier the my Honda was. I changed the pads and the rotors with a single hang up. As i pull out of the drive i get the usual new rotor noise so I do the good ol' rotor seating proceedure, but they wont quiet down, i still have the chirp mind you at the same time. Day 2, most noise comes from the passenger wheel still kinda like if you were to drang your feet on the sidewalk at a normal walking pace but without the gravel sound. I jacked the front end up and spun the tires but now i hear no freakin chirpin or grindin, so I block all the tires and jack the back end up, same thing no chirp. The little bird seems to be living in my front passenger tire when im driving. i took the tires off and no abnormal rotor grooves everything normal. i bought Dura last gold pads and duralast rotors. please help this is makin me pull my hair out

Comming from a guy that worked at a Autozone for 4 years. I would stay away from any products they sell!!! You wouldnt believe the amount of warr. returns the store saw. One thing I know around here is the Autozone stand there rotors up and not lay flat likethe should be!!

I have senn alot of bad product come out from autozone store and would never buy anything from there! Just to warn you guys.
