Hi I have a 2001 lincoln ls I was driving the car then shut it off then when I got back into it when I started it the car started missing a little and then began to get a bad pop/pinging noise like detonation also the brakes got very stiff and the rpm's keep revving. I thought it's possibly a problem with the egr system but not real sure. Also the dpfe has the line on the left broke off but it had ran fine before like that. All help is much appreciated Thanks.

I am assuming that you have the V8 (3.9L) and not the V6 (3.0L). If you have the V6 instead, then ignore everything below.

There's a good chance that one of the timing chains jumped a tooth due to failure of a timing chain tensioner.
If one of the exhaust cams is only off by one tooth and you haven't revved it too high since it happened, it's probably repairable (replace tensioners and chains). Otherwise, the engine may be done.
Note that there less serious possibilities, but I think this is the most likely one from what you have said so far.

That's not what I wanted to hear lol I appreciate it though. It is the 3.9. How should I go about testing to find out for sure what it is. Thanks.

by removing the valve covers, you can look at the cams and make sure they are lined up.

you may just have a/many misfire/s like most LSs from failing coils... its kinda hard to tell from this far away.

This is true. Also add the possibility of a break in a major vacuum line.

The car is getting a p0102 maf code. I'll search around for a broken vacuum line. Do you guys know by chance what the spark advance should read? When I put it on the scanner it was jumping around a lot mainly stayed around 13-15.5 but dropped to -.5, 9, up 22ish. Thanks

Does it really matter..... It's not adjustable.......

unless this just happened since you started this thread, its probably wise to give as much info as possible in the original post... leaving any stuff out can really get you sent looking in the wrong direction.

No its had the maf code sense this problem happened. My apologies I forgot to add that.

The spark advance that you are reading is a value that is controlled by the PCM, not something that is measured, settable, or adjustable. The PCM decides what to set the advance to based on many inputs, including temperature, engine load, knock sensors, and on and on. It's not a value that you need to look at or be concerned about. It really won't help you with diagnosis.
