hi i have posted before with problems i had with putting a 2001 mustang tranny in my 1993 mark viii. now the tranny is works great when u shift manually but once its in drive sometimes it will rev like it can't find what gear to go to. having the overdrive button on and off doesn't seem to change anything. i would think it is something with the mlps but its brand new. i am wondering if there is anything else besides the neutral safety switch that would do such a thing. also note that my tachometer rpm gauge does not work i had it apart thinking it was the back face sticking it but that doesn't change anything. could this effect the electronics on the transmission in deciding what gear to be in. thanks

did you get a mlps for a 1993 4r70w?thats what you want.

if the rpm sensor is not working, that may be a big problem for your trans shifting.not sure, but to me it seems it could make a difference.

I have his car currently and drove it tonight. Its doing the same thing as before but now if you are parked and go from park to drive you have to rev it to get it to engage into gear. Once in gear it runs and drives good in first and 2nd. Put it into 3rd and it sometimes will go and other times it will act like its in neutral. 4th gear it wont even try to go into. When going from park to reverse it immediately goes into gear. I found a tsb on this though and it says.

Known problem....water in MLP.....check and replace...

ISSUE:

Some vehicles may exhibit a shift concern and/or an engagement concern due to water intrusion into the MLP/TR sensor and vehicle harness. There may also be a number of different DTC's along with those concerns.
ACTION:

Replace the MLP/TR sensor and vehicle harness connector if signs of water penetration is evident. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Verify the customer concern.
2. Perform normal On-Board Diagnostics.
3. Inspect the MLP/TR sensor for signs of water contamination.
4. If water penetration is present and DTC's have been set, replace the MLP/TR sensor and the vehicle harness connector with the TR Sensor Service Kit (F5AZ-7A247-A).

I am beginning to believe that this is not a trans problem as much as an electrical problem. It did the same exact thing with the old transmission as it is doing with the new one. The new one only has 17,000 miles on it. Now if only I had my service manual and knew what a TR/MLP sensor is.

That is your MLPS..........

<<<< from the service manual dvd>>>>

Transmission Range (TR) Sensor
SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S) REQUIRED Description Tool Number
Transmission Range (TR) Sensor (MLPS-)Manual Lever Position Sensor Alignment Tool T93P-70010-A

Turn manual control lever (7A256) to NEUTRAL position.

Loosen two TR sensor retaining bolts.

Align TR sensor slots using Transmission Range (TR) Sensor (MLPS-Manual Lever Position Sensor) Alignment Tool T93P-70010-A.

is the mlps for the year vehicle?it as to match the pcm, also,do you have a 2nd mlps to try, maybe yours is bad,i also remember you saying you changed the electronics inside the trans instead of the harness,iw ould go the other way and put the internals back, and repin the harness if you haven't already,it seems more people have luck doing it that way, myself included.

thats been done its been switched back and repinned, the mlps is brand new for a 93 im not sure if he aligned it correctly he said he did.

:I

I'll bet that's the problem.

Keep us posted. I'd like to know if you get it to work.

I dont think its the repin is incorrect just because of the fact that first it was done with the old selenoids. And now its been repinned and uses all of the new stuff and does the same exact thing as before.
