hello everyone.. i just replaced my old tranny in my 1993 mark viii with a tranny from a 2001 mustang was told the tranny only had 17k on it. i installed it with the wire harness internals from the old tranny and had problems from the first drive i noticed it doesn't seem to want to shift into 3rd gear or overdrive. with the overdrive turned on the transmission doesn't seem to know what to do and at about 45mph it just revs like it is in neutral. with overdrive turned off it stops doing this. the mlps switch has been installed right and is brand new. it also makes a shudder in drive when applying throttle. and now today i went to get gas in it and it slips in all forward gears but not in reverse. so i am thinking that the forward clutch seal rings are worn out cause of this link http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny/transmission/page4.shtml

if anyone could give me any advice it would be great i am thinking about replacing the internal soliniods with the ones from the 2001 tranny and repinning my harness. but i am still worryed that won't fix any of my problems. has anyone had experience replacing the forward clutch seal rings?

thanks

I believe that repinning the harness is the recommended practice.

:I

You must either re-pin the harness, or take the wires from inside the original transmission and put them in the new transmission.

Assuming you still have stock gears in your rear axle, you'll also need to install a 19 tooth speedometer gear on your speed sensor or you'll get an incorrect reading on your speedometer.

Sorry, I missed that part before I responed earlier.

I have a 2001 Mustang transmission in my own '93, and hadn't experienced those problems. I'd be very surprised if the transmission itself was bad; that would just be rotten.

You can use the shift solenoids from either transmission; it doesn't matter. The TCC solenoid must be for a '93, so you should stick with the one from the old transmission or buy another one for a '93.

One other thing you should try, is re-installing the old MLPS. It's possible (however unlikely) that the new one is malfunctioning. Are you absolutely sure you installed it correctly? (Shifted into neutral, then installed the part with the marker lines alligned?)

I suggest you swap the shift solenoids, and MLPS before you possibly waste time going deeper into the repair work.

If that doesn't work, there are videos on the AODE/4R70W here. I noticed that he mistakenly called the 1-2 accumulator the "3-4 accumulator," but other than that, the videos seemed to make sense.
