2002 LS Microphone device???

I recently purchased a mint condition 02 LS that seams to have every available option. There is a device that I am fairly certain is a microphone mounted with velcro above the rearview mirror. The small cable runs into the header where the nirror is mounted.

Does anyone know what this is for. I thought it may have been for the cell phone integration into the stereo system option but there doesn't seem to be a cell phone docking connection anywhere in the car. Does anyone else have one of these?

It look like an OEM installation to me. The cable runs inside the mirror them disipears under the upholstery. I'm wondering if this is the microphone for the bluetooth option?

It isn't OEM if it's attached with Velcro. Ford uses a microphone built into the mirror for NAV. Not sure about a phone. Sounds to me like someone either had it for their hands free cell phone or an aftermarket NAV. Follow the wiring and see where it takes you!

The mic for the phone systems was built into the back trim panel on the steering wheel.

It's hard to tell but it looks like the cable runs to the rear of the stereo system.

I'll bet it was for an aftermarket NAV system that had voice control.

I could have been part of an aftermarket handsfree for a cell phone....I have one of those that is installed in mine for a nokia and the mic is velcroed to the headliner next to the map lights.
