Ok, so I'm sure if any of you have ever tried to put XM Radio in a 2004 LS, you know that it is all but impossible with the factory 6-disc changer unless you use an FM transmitter. Does anyone have ANY idea how to have this play through the stereo directly? I know it's a long shot, but I have to ask.

If there is no way to achieve this, could someone explain what exactly has to be done to have Sirius play directly through the stereo. Yes, it is that serious. I am willing to change from XM (which I have had for years and love) to Sirius so that quality will be perfectly clear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My name is Landon, Feel free to say hello if you get a chance!

You can do it with one of a couple of PIE adapters. There's the FRD03-AUX, the X3, and maybe other adapters that will do the same. They basically give you a line-in into the stock head unit. I use an X3 (which gives me three line-ins) because it's the only one that works with the Ford/Lincoln Visteon Sirius unit (which I have).

Go to www.pie.net to see their wares.

I honestly have no idea if my car has the Sirius Visteon deal. When I press the SAT button, it says NO SAT. So Im assuming that there is no tuner there. If this is the case, do I need to purchase one from the dealership? (i.e. $400 bucks) Or can I get these elsewhere? I would also like to play my ipod through the tuner as well. Everytime I talk to anyone who knows about LS stereos, they pretty much run the other direction.

I guess what I need is a step by step guideline of what I need to do in order to have crystal clear satellite radio in my car. I know you guys are the experts, so Im very grateful for any assistance.

Thanks

If you want the built-in Sirius unit, you can get it from a dealer, or you can get it from another vendor. I got mine from Anco Auto: http://www.ancoauto.com/oscommerce/ , but there are other vendors who sell them.

The Visteon unit is a bit pricey (around $300, last I checked), but if you want it to be fully integrated with the car's audio system (so you can control it with the steering wheel controls), it's a fine solution.

If you already have an XM or Sirius receiver, all you need is PIE's FRD03-AUX ( http://www.pie.net/pie_store/shopexd.asp?id=14&bc=no ). If you want to use a non-Visteon satellite unit and an iPod, you can use the PIE X3 ( http://www.pie.net/pie_store/shopexd.asp?id=94&bc=no ) with the appropriate harness ( http://www.pie.net/pie_store/shopexd.asp?id=630&bc=no , I think). The X3 gives you three line-ins; the AUX only gives you one.

I use an X3 with PIE's UNI-POD iPod adapter, and I've used it on my previous ('04) and current ('06) LSes.

Thanks for you help everyone, I think Im gonna try out the "USA Spec iPod Interface w/ Lincoln PA11Ford 1". I'll report back.

Thanks again!

Make sure you check with them that it will actually work with the 04.
Upon further study their interface looks like it's for a unit that controls an external cd changer from 2000-2003.
The 2000-2004 listing could be an error on their part.
my ipod interface was good only for an 04-05 car.
That leads me to believe 2000-2003 was one system,
2004-2005 is another and 2006 is all by itself.
I think you have enough leads here to find what you need
but you'll have to email the suppliers and do some homework yourself.

If it says it fits a 2000-2004 Lincoln LS, either there's a typo in the description or they don't know what they're doing. There's a big difference between the 1st Gen ('00-'02) and 2nd Gen ('03-'06) head units; there are even problems unique to the '03 models because of some mid-year changes.

There are no major differences between the '05 and '06 model years; the '06 was essentially a carry-over--it's not like Ford was going to spend any money on a model that was to be discontinued at the end of the model year. All the evidence points to the LS only being made in '06 to use up existing stocks and to provide a fallback if they had major problems with the Zephyr.

Ok guys, I finally got this to work. I bought this off of ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/2004-2005-LINCOLN-LS-AUX-INPUT-XM-SIRIUS-iRIVER-ZEN

I plugged it into my XM Commander tuner and then connected it to the factory unit and voila... XM playing direct through my stereo via the SAT button. I also attached splitters to the input (to split into 2 red inputs and 2 white inputs). I attached an RCA (red/white) to headphone jack extension, and now I have my iPod playing directly too (when the XM is turned off).

I recommend this to anyone who is looking for direct satellite/ipod play through the stereo.

*The XM cannot be controlled through the radio, but that isn't a huge deal for me.

Thanks for your help everyone.

wow, looks like a pretty good setup! Thanks for the link.

so where does the jack end up hanging? Are you able to hide it somewhere?

I just might have to jump into the 20th century and buy myself an mp3 player now that I know there's a product that I can use that will allow direct connection!

I have a 2005 which I installed xm radio myself useing the xm kit made by audiovox .

Simple install ,super clean sound,it uses the factory deck and display and is a much cleaner install then the add on kits . I got the kit for $39.00 off amazon.com website and it is aval on e-bay as well . I hated the add on units and this is way better and alot cheaper .

Make sure when you get it that it is a newer version because the early versions had 1 wire in the wrong place going into the box itself and audiovox is fully aware of the problem and will correct it if you end up w/ an older one . It easy to repair yourself and just requires you to move 1 of the pins .You know you have the older version when you turn it on and it says "no signal" on the display so then call audiovox or go to the website xmfan.com and do a search for xm radio in later model ford escape ( I think it was)...thats how I found out the problem and the fix is posted there .I tried to post it on amazon.com but the deleted the link ....idiots
