Hey guys

All of a suudeen the tach in my 2004 navigator does not return to zero when I shut off the ignition. It sits at around 2800 rpm. When I start the engine the tach responds to the throttle, but reads 2800 rpm higher than actual rpm.

All other gauges in the instrument panel work fine and OBDII is Not throwing any codes. I assume it is probably a tach malfunction. I have heard that there are Instrument panel repair facilities out there somewhere or I could also find one in the Boneyard.

Just thought I'd reach out to seeif anyone had experienced this before ?

Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery? I'm not sure if the Navigator does it, but some vehicles go through some kind of calibration when you first connect the battery. The gauges go all the way to max and then return to min.

Thanks for the tip.

Not sure if just disconnecting the battery or cleaning the terminals did the trick, but all is fine now. Upon investigation, the battery connections were good and secure, but the 2 auxiliary wire connections were not that tight and a little corroded. Took the time to clean and secure all the connections including the battery.

Thanks again !
