I'm about to become an ex-LS 01 v6 owner. I've had the usual problems I've been reading about in this forum (e.g. jolting transmission, unexplained periodic rough idle, screeching brakes with 8 different pad/rotor combos, loose ball joints, etc) and I just drove a 2005 Jaguar S-type. I know it shares components with the LS which is probably why I love the ride so much.
I'm 6'4" and this is the only sedan I've driven so far that has headroom for me.
Any recommendations on the 2005 Jag w/23K miles? Or am I headed for the same troubles? I've read conflicting accounts about whether Jaguar has improved quality over the years.

If you have a Jag dealer close, it is worth considering. But with the computers in these cars, I would want a dealer that is not a ways away. In my case the closest dealer is 137 miles. You might want to at least look at a later model V8 LS of 03+ vintage. The variable cam timing has made a great deal of improvement to the engine.

I thought i was the only one with this jolting transmisson... didn't know it was a popular problem... I took it to the dealer and they said they fix it, but once I put it in drive it jerked again.. im taking it back this week.. I love this car but it's starting to piss me off.

You are much better off with the S-Type then a 05 LS. First off are you buying this off of a Jaguar Dealer? If so Jaguar has the best used market standards in the market. JD Power has rated in #1 for I believe 2or3 years.
Second they share the same frame, engine block, tranny, and thats about it.
Lastly Jaguar's fit and finish is untouchable, those english know one thing and thats interiors!

Good luck and welcome to the Jaguar family!
