I'm taking delivery of a 2005 Nav without the factory towing package. It's my understanding that the vehicle still has a class 3 hitch and a pretty significant towing capacity. I'm also looking at buying a 22 foot Starcraft open bow boat sitting on a tandem trailer. I'm sure hoping that the Nav can tow this trailer, at least for short distances. I'm estimating the boat/trailer weight at about 6,500. The trailer calls for a class 4 hitch (2" ball), but I think the Nav's class 3 should suffice. Am I all wet here (figuratively speaking)?? Thanks for any comments or advice.

You should be fine. I towed my 23' Monterey with my "old" truck - Nissan Titan - Class III Hitch with no problems. I am now using my wife's Aviator with Class III Hitch. Aviator is factory rated with Class III Hitch to tow 7,300 Lbs. + or -.

Thanks for the advice -- I feel much better now. I checked and the boat and trailer combo (w/gas) should weigh less than 6,000, so I should be okay.

Here I am buying a Navigator (15 mpg on the highway) and a speed boat with a 50 gallon fuel tank when gas is over $4 a gallon -- I haven't been that reckless and stupid since I was 19 (and I'm 62 now)!

You'll be fine. Make sure you have the 2" 6000# ball.

I tow my 23ft that weighs 6400lbs with trailer no problem with my Expedition.
