anyone using these? are they quiet; smooth? i have a set of snow tires and rims i will be switching to soon, and i am looking for a bigger replacement come spring. nothing wrong with my 235-50-17's...2 seem pretty new so i will probably sell, i just like the wider look. i was running 245-60-15 on my tbird that came stock with 215-70-15. looked mean as hell! if not the generals, post what you use that size, or any size bigger than the stock 235(still using 17"). TIA.

Dont know about the Generals, but I highly recommend Kuhmo Ectas 255/45/17's It makes the LS look mean with wide tires on stock rims.

I had them on my 02 V8 Sport with 2" lowering springs w/o any rubbing at all. Theres plenty of room for a 255/45.

I got these in 245/40/18 a week ago. So far after ~400 miles I'm pleasently surprised. Quiet and handle well. I take a right 270º descending on-ramp coming home from work. It is marked 20mph, I usually take it ~45, any faster causes serious outer shoulder wear. I took it at ~50, very close to a 4-wheel drift, and didn't notice the shoulder wear I expected. I'll have to see how they do over time.

So far, two thumbs up!

this size fits without rubbing front or rear? i have the sport package.

I had this size for about a year. This was before I lowered my car. No rubbing issues.

Mike,

Did you ever run 245/45-18's before? I'm running that size now and I'm thinking of going with 245/40-18's this next go around.

I have 255/45/17 on my stock wheels, no rubbing at all, was holding road like crazy. But I changed the rims and now they are just sitting in the garage.

That's what was on the Voxx wheels I got from Brian. They rubbed when hitting sharp dips. I went to the 245/40's to help that. I also bent that inner fender lip up, to add clearance. I still get an occasional rub, so will have to tweek that lip some more. The Voxx wheels have a 40mm offset. I think with a 45mm+ offset rubbing wouldn't be an issue.

I have 245/45/17's on and I have really enjoyed them. Continental Extreme Contacts. The only problem is that the ones I have are no good at all in snow.

I'm having rubbing issues since installing the StopTech brakes, Monroe Sensacraps and adding 8mm spacers. It's pushed the offset out to around 36mm. I've got new wheels coming to help cure most of it and will probably go with 245/40-18 tires on the new ones. Also, I need to replace the Sensacraps. The right front fender lip pulled down on a hard dip one day. I had to work about an hour to get it bent back. Nothing cosmetic on the outside of the fender. I like the StopTech's too well to switch them out to keep from the rubbing issue.

Here are the 255/45's

can someone post a pic of the 255-45-17's mounted on the car please?

I really liked the look when I had the 255/45/17's. Thet were really meaty! Turn-in was a little slow, but you have to expect that. Overall, I liked the look, but the selection (3 years ago) was quite limited.

Ken,

My experience with the Monroe's exactly! There's no way I'd buy them again. I also found that they were, and I could never figure out why, about 1/2" shorter than the factory shock. Without spending the $6K on the Leda's, the best shock I've found so far is the factory euro shock.

I still need to work a little on the rear fender lip. If I can bend it up just a little more, I think I'll be set.

How much stiffer is the Euro shock compared to the Sport shock? Also, I've been contemplating buying the fender lip roll tool that Tirerack.com sells.

That I couldn't tell you. I went from the base shocks right to the euros. They are noticeably more firm than worn out base shocks, though. With the SpringTechs, the ride isn't really harsh, just well controlled.

For 300 bucks, my crow bar did just fine!!

I have 245/45/17 and they are fine for me there quite and I haven't had any issues with them check out my garage photos or click on the car domain for more pics!!

Just to be clear on my set-up, my (and I suspect Ken's) rubbing issue is the wheel offset. I had NO rubbing issues with the stock 17" wheels. In either 255/45 or 245/45. My rubbing started with the installation of 40mm offset Voxx wheels. The car was already lowered with the SpringTech springs. I have solved 99% of the rubbing by tweeking the lip on the inside rear fender. The euro spech shocks also help. With the base or SensaCrap tuned shocks, I would anticipate too much rubbing with the 40mm offset. In that case, I wouldn't go any less than ~45mm offset. That should get the wheel fully inside the wheel well.

Oh yeah! I forgot you do the husband cash! ;) I thought about buying it and then letting my alignment guy use it on those rice rockets he gets in his shop for a small nominal fee!

I agree with this. Before the StopTech's the offset on the OZ's were 48mm and tucked nicely inside the fender well with 245/45-18's. I would occasionally get some rubbing on the inner lining but that was on extreme circumstances.

ok, so i decided i will go with 255/45/17. i am leaning towards the bfg g-force sport. price is ok, and got good ratings on tire rack. point me in a different direction if i am wrong.

Where were you planning to buy the tires from? I have always got good pricing from East Coast Tires. They are cheaper than Tirerack.com. Call Ryan Deberry there at 800-560-7834 before you buy elsewhere. He will more than likely save you some cash.
