I have a 98 LSC and the rear neon does not currently work, however if I unplug and plug it back in at the ballast it will flicker for a second. Does this mean my ballast is junk or is there a way to repair this. Would prefer to not have to buy a replacement would rather fix if possible.

Ideas/advice? Thanks

You may have humidity in the actual ballast. Pull it out & let it air dry for a full day. Plug it back in. If it works, then pull it back out & seal it with silicone all around. If it doesn't, toss it, time for a glitch ballast.

So you are saying I should remove the original ballast and bring it inside for a day or two to let it dry out? I guess it's worth a shot

Oh really? Perhaps she made some?? I need one for my Mark-Trailer.

I'd say just go ahead and order one, it'll make your trunk actually open when you swap it.. seriously :)

What do you mean by actually open? My trunk does open lol. And I'm willing to try a few things first before buying a new part.

If your neon flickers.. your ballast is dead, buy a Glitch Ballast and be done..
and you say it opens, but does it open ALL the way vertical with just pushing the truck button?

There's a slight weight and size difference between a stock ballast and the Glitch.. the Glitch is the white one

Mine did exactly what yours is doing. Just a quick flash and nothing. Installed new ballast and AWESOME

If you've never pulled your neon.. go to Walmart and get some super glue and some tape. You'll more than likely need to reglue at least 1 mount, use tape to hold it on til glue cures :)

Never said anywhere my trunk doesn't open lol it opens wonderfully when I push my release. And I have heard this weight difference reading through all the ballast threads I could find. Will most likely order the glitch ballast after I finish completed some more necessary work that I need to do on the car. Thanks all for your input. Will have my neon working again someday soon!!

I didn't say that you said it doesn't open.. lol

But if it opens up fully now, it'll open a lot faster after the Glitch. Make sure you have someone catch the trunk deck for a test open. It could flex the hinge arms enough to allow the deck to smack the rear glass and crack it.
