Ordered this from Amazon for my 01 V8. OTC cam tool set. If I install the tool with the center hole lined up with the threaded hole in the block, the tool sits on top of the cam shoulder and doesn't sit on the flats. If I reverse the tool it will sit on the flats but I can't install the center bolt. Has anyone else used this from Amazon with this result? DSC00038.JPGDSC00039.JPGDSC00040.JPG

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this.

The service manual drawings show the tool installed the way you have it in the top picture, without the center bolt used.

That's the way I decided I would have to use it even tho the pictures that came with it showed all three bolts in place. Does the service manual show which type of crankshaft pulley puller to use- 3 jaw gripping the outside of pulley or type with two bolts in the damper its
elf. If one should use the two bolt type, does it show the size of the bolts? Again, thanks for all the help Joe. Found the answer- uses the two bolt puller. Thanks anyway.

55, might want to look at the issue I ran into when I went to get my tensionors done. Prior to build date may of 2001 the chains were of a weaker design. My mech only did the upper stuff, but primaries are so obviously worn they needed to go too. Currently I am sourcing all the parts and will go in by the end of the year to pull all that. Hindsight what it is I wouldnt had to do this twice.

Grizzlyls, I ordered the kit from Christophers Foreign Car Parts. All 4 chains, guides and tensioners . Car has 140,000 miles and I found that none of the tensioners were cracked or broken, no slack in chains. But since I have gone this far, I am going to replace all parts. The chains look exactly like the new chains, the main differences are in the guides and tensioners. I bought the car with about 20,000 miles in 2003 and it is a late 2000 build. The two secondary tensioners don't look the same but neither is broken. I'm sure they are the originals. Glad my shop is quite a ways from my house and my neighbors or they would have learned some new words.

Great. I bought the upper kit since I was unaware of the build date issue. Working with Christopher to get the remaining. It is interesting though, I have been told the change was from a weaker bicycle style chain to something called a double link design. This is all second hand, some mechanic I talked too so I dont know. Maybe someone else can fill in accuracy. I do find it interesting that you didnt see a difference in the chains. I think I see in the pictures you did have 2 different types of tensionors. The originals are the big orange plastics and the laters have metal and plastic and used shorter bolts I believe. I wonder if someone was in yours already and changed the chains too.

BTW if you are on the bottom end, I need a clue about the gears on the crankshaft. Our gen 1 seem to be 2 piece, and we cant get that anymore. Well sort of. Christopher has a batch, but at 145 bucks a piece thats insane. I think he gets those from a Jag source. The original was about 30 dollars apiece, I found an old listing on a ford site, but cant order anymore. The later one is 2 sprockets on one piece. I thought I ordered two singles on closeout from another ford dealer at 23 bucks apiece, but its the 2 doubles. Does your lower primary gears seem the two or the one. I am hoping I can use the double. The mech that did my uppers said the gears up top were worn sharp, so thats why I am looking to do a whole refresh.
