3457 or 3157 bulb for high mount brake light?

Hi Everyone,

The brake light bulbs calls for the 3457 which is brighter and I believe runs hotter than the 3157 bulb.

The high mount brake light calls for the 3157 bulb.

I'm wondering if anyone has used the 3457 bulbs in place of the stock 3157 for the high mount brake light in the middle of the back window?

I haven't tried it yet to see if there is an actual noticeable difference - figure if it is a bit brighter and wouldn't melt the light housing why not use the 3457?

No one has considered putting in the brighter bulb?

i considered it, but LEDs were way cooler. (pun intended) so thats the route i went.

Thanks Chris, I too wanted to use LED's, especially for the back up and cornering lights. Even searched for LED Hi beam bulbs, but there are so many different versions/styles and manufacturers. I take it you are happy with yours, Can your recommend a seller for the 3457 bulbs?

i used something that looks like this in the third brake light.

the 93s used a different bulb than the 96+ cars it seems, not sure when they made the change. it had the smaller wedge bulbs.
they work fine in the 3rd brake light, you have to get pretty close to notice a difference.

i'll note that you should go bigger/better for brake/turn bulbs to get the brightness.
and of course, always match bulb color to the lens when colored.
white LEDs look pink behind red lenses.

I know the 97 & 98 M8's use two 1157 bulbs for the third brake light, not sure on the 1st Gen M8's.

Good to note that about the color, I was not aware that made a difference.
