the car idles rough as hell and when i get going its seeems to go away and the car still has good power.. coils, plugs are fine.. has anyone had a problem like this .. please help!! my car has been in the shop for a month already!!!!

i had the same problem. when i had it check out the 1st time i was told coils 1 and 4 went, had them replaced and problem still occured so i ended up getting it re-diagnosed and coils 2,3,4 were also bad so i had them all changed now she runs perfect. make sure they change the correct coil because when lincoln diagnosed it for me they didnt read all the right codes and i ended up spending some $$. were you getting a CEL?

yeah, even though they say the are fine.... depending on how many miles you might as well replace them.

the check engine light is turning on and the codes are for 4 cyl misfire and 2 transmission codes...these coils are only 2 and a half years old

not sure why you are saying coils are fine.... just because you replaced them 2.5yrs ago doesn't mean one did not fail.

the mis-fire reading on a particular cylinder can be inaccurate, since the PCM is trying to match a knock to a rotation where a cylinder 'should' be close to firing. often it is another cylinder.

what do u suggest? should i move some coils around see if the misfire changes cyl .. right now u can disconnect all the coils on the right side and the misfire at idle doesnt get any worse.

if the coils are old then you might as well replace all of them.

so anyone who has this problem ,your pretty much screwed like me cause the timing chain jumped a tooth and this is definately a costly situation

If the engine runs OK off-idle, it's not very likely that you've had a chain jump a tooth. You should examine the bottoms of the spark plug boots for any signs of burning. Oil helps this happen, but it's not the only reason for a failure.

sry guys to go off topic but rado5427 do you have piks of your car?

My car does this too and has been doing it for a while. It's a very rough Idle and sometimes dies on my before I put it reverse or drive. It usually dies at least once a day, when I'm sitting at a stop light or drive-through with my foot on the break, the car will just die.

I recently replaced my MAF sensor because it was throwing codes like misfire in the 1 and 3 cylinder. I was also getting bad gas milage and the guy said it was my MAF sensor if I'm getting bad gas milage.

Since I replaced the MAF sensor, my car still dies when I'm driving it but now, when I come to a stop, my engine will Idle at 1200 RPM, and it usually idles around 600 RPM. WTF!! Then if i put my car in park, the engine will start reving slowly and the RPM gauge will go all the way to the restrictor.

you replaced your MAF because of misfire codes? the misfire's have to do with either the coils themselves or the gaskets letting oil in.

I had the same problem and my #2 was misfiring so I changed my plugs and wires and I was fine!

how did someone diagnose that?

well they removed the left valve cover and put the number 1 cyl in tdc and the timing marks didnt line up.. there where also piece of the slider or tensioner flying around in there.
