Wooo Hooo!! It was 4 years ago today i quit a 35 yr., 2 pack a day habit, Cold Turkey.
Best thing i ever did for myself. I just had to share..........:D:D

Good for you buddy, I smoked for 6 months a pack a day... quit, hated how I felt and how much money I was BLOWING.

I know right ive been smoking for about 5 years and I get regular check ups and the odd chest x ray and I fine plus my father told me he doesn't believe in quitters and I Dont want to disappoint him

Cool!

Been nearly a month for me, although haven't done it cold turkey, as I've been using the gum.

Around this time last year, I tried that Chantix - didn't help at all - nasty drug, IMO.

Congratulations! It's been 4 years and a few months for me.. after 39 years.
I still dream about them.

GOOD FOR YOU!

How bad are the cravings after the first couple of weeks? Do they get easier? Or do you still get the mind fu:cking urge to light up?

For most people, it's about 3 weeks before they get all the nicotine out of their system. After that, it's like thinking "Do I want this ice cream bar" or not? Basically, it's a choice you can easily make after 3 weeks.

I tried quitting i got that nicorette inhaler thingy and it didn't do :q:q:q:q it made me want a smoke so bad. Just don't do what my father did, he tried the patch, and forgot he had it on and started smoking and fell asleep while driving and crashed into the back of my old 86 prelude car was a pos anyways. Needed to dump gas into the carb to get it to start hahaha

I made a plan, and worked a plan.
Smoke your last one right before you go to bed. when you wake up, you already have 8 hrs of no smoking under your belt. I think what worked for me was being totally devoid of cigarettes, having no smoke around me and eliminating the smell triggers around me. You have to get away from it totally. wash all clothes, clean carpets, paint the walls. etc..

Oh yea, i pretty much gave up on drinking too, knowing that when drinking, ill want to smoke twice as much. Now, i can drink all i want and not having a heater, aint no biggie.
Now, I can smell smoker a block away, and cigarette smoke really smells terrible, to the point of getting me angry when i smell it. I honestly dont know how i went thru life smelling like that for all those years.

I can honestly say the cravings were not bad the first month. the less i thought about it the less i wanted one. but month 2-3 were the worst for me.

There is one downside about quitting smoking. the weight gain. I've got more Chins, than a Chinese phone book now. I have put on about 70 lbs. and lost 30 of it. Food smells soooo good now hahaha!

The doctor said im healthier with the weight gain than i was smoking, and i will eventually lose most of it.
Good luck to anyone who is trying to quit. its easy for some, and hard for others. this is just what worked for me.

i smoke 2 packs a day and i quit every night, when i go to bed, i start back uop when i go to work, so really i only smoke half the time, thats right isnt it? lol anyway, quittin is weak, i'm the strong type.

Twenty years for me.
I smoked two packs a day for thirty five years.
What made me quit (cold turkey) was, I started getting pains in what felt like my kidneys.
I had just finished a large meal with some friends at a local bistro, and like always, lit up after the meal.
One puff, and the pain was really bad.
I tore up the pack right then and there, and never had another cigarette
That first three or four months, I substituted hard candy for the cigarettes, and that is what got me through it.
Today I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke.
If you want to see something that looks really really stupid, watch someone smoking a cigarette.
It is a disgusting, harmful, dirty habit, and I have to offer my praises for any one who quits the habit.
Bob.

if i quit, i'll have unhealthy weight gain! as soon as i land a new job and get far away from the toilet job i have now i will quit, where i work now, if i tried to quit with all the bs at the job i have, i would most likely kill someone. and i'd rather see my kids grow up so i cant kill anyone........ yet

You are just kidding yourself by making excuses as to why you can't quit now.
You can quit NOW, if you wanted too.
Gaining weight is bullsh!t..
You don't gain weight because you quit smoking.
You gain weight if you can't control your intake of high caloric foods.
Having a lousy job is no excuse either.
Those who can't give up smoking, and look for a million reasons why they can't, are just weak
Don't use that silly excuse about weight gain as a crutch to procrastinate about the decision that could mean a longer, or shorter life for you.
If you can't muster up enough will power to quit for yourself, perhaps you should think of your family.
Why should they have to be around all that second hand smoke?
I will not apologize for my rant because it really ticks me off when people show how weak they are, with no sense of willpower.
Hiding behind stupid (and they are stupid) meaningless excuses says volumes about you.
Bob.

What is it with ex smokers turning into preachers?

If someone wants to smoke, so be it. Unless you conceived the person(s), you have no say in how they run their lives. . No need to preach to people about quitting. Quit being holier than thou. Seriously.

I quit for 5 years, and then took it back up again? Why? Well, aside from other factors, I like smoking. If cigarettes kill me, I'll be happy. In my line of work, cancer is the last of my worries.

I try to be courteous of non smokers, but the ones that bitch and moan and tell me I should quit? I purposely blow smoke towards them. Just... to... piss... them... off.

Oh, and you were SO strong for that 20 years you smoked, right? But now that you quit, all the sudden you're a friggn monk, what with with your uber willpower and concentration.

Some members of my family are like that - their preaching made me even more determined to smoke. People should quit because they want to quit and not because of external pressure, IMO.

I'll smoke till the day I die, it's something I enjoy and eases stress. Makes the day go by and gives you something to do. Everything you do have consequences regardless of what it is. It's a personal choice and no one else has control of it. Like here in Canada in some provinces it's illegal to smoke in YOUR vehicle if there is someone under the age of 16. Like WTF?

It's day 2 for me and my wife, and this quitting smoking thing just might get us to kill each other. We both have become truly unbearable without the sweet sweet smoke filling our lungs.

Great Job ... stay strong .... my wife was a smoker from age about 8 to 28 ... been a battle since 1994 on and off. Been an off since 2007 so keep fighting .. great job

I mainly smoke cigars.

I prefer to puff on them...they cost more but i still get relaxation and because they cost more i purchase and smoke less of them.

I did smoke a lot whole deployed though, a pack every two days.
