FORD TREMOR
The ground shakes when you twist the key in Tremor. In addition to an open exhaust, 380 horses are lolling around in this Explorer-based sport/utility's all-aluminum 4.6-liter 40-valve dohc V8. That's right, five valves per cylinder.
But even with the engine at rest, the styling touches on this truck scream for attention.
Production Explorers are saddled with a solid rear axle. But the awd Tremor coddles its occupants with an independent rear suspension. Two-way adjustable gas shocks, a rear stabilizer bar and a 2-in.-lower ride height all contribute to solid handling.
Putting the 4900-pound 4-wheeler to the test yields quarter-mile excursions in less than 15 seconds with 0 to 60 mph in the high-6-second bracket. And should the need arise to beat the big bad wolf to grandma's house, a top speed of nearly 140 mph is just a push of the pedal away
