Check this out. Was down at the dealership getting the oil changed (don't give me too hard a time) when out comes one of the service managers to tell me i need to buy a new air filter. O.K. sure. I tell him that i'm getting a K&N, at which he tells me that i'll be making a mistake with a high-flow filter. "Sure it will run better, but you need one of our filters" he says, at which i look at him incredulously. As i'm walking away he tells me that i also need all new lugs nuts. Now i had just read on LincolnvsCadillac.com about someone else who had to change his out; so this wasn't too surprising. However what came next blew my mind. He said, They are $5.00 dollars a piece, at which i said "DO WHAT??" I then asked if my wheels would fall off if i didn't buy his lug nuts at which he just shrugged his shoulders. I had seen the mechanic just minutes before about to flip my car off the rack trying to remove the socket from the lugs that he had just run down with the strongest impact wrench in the shop. Am i being rediculous with the price of these lugs? I plan on going out to a tire shop and buying me a set of solid chrome lugs nuts rather than having the cheesy stock ones with the chrome tin foil cap that would need to be replaced again in about four tire rotations.

This is why we call them stealerships. I know that there are good techs out there but the bsiness practices of the SA and shop managers are horrible.

5 dollars is way too much and I am glad you asked him if your wheels would fall off if you did buy his nuts LOL!

So he admits that a K&N will run better and still expects you to buy from him??? hmmmm sounds like :bsflag:

Not to make the dealer sound legit, but on another web site some car fanatics that were bigtime mod freaks found over the long run that the K&N filters deposit some of the fiber and oil(?) they are made out of onto the MAF and if I recall the fibers would cook onto the wires and then the sensor would degrade over time. Another different vehicle site confirmed that suspicion and some dealer mechanics are told to look for this as a source of MAF issues.

Not sure if our LS use a MAF or a MAP, and whether the problem is the same anyway.

And the dealer is raping you for a cheapy part, but that is often the problem with limited premium production cars, the parts prices are ridiculous even if they are standard. My 89 SHO was a prime example of this.

Just a thought.

I got a set of 4 "real" lug nuts (no caps) for around $5 at the local parts store after the tire shop rounded mine. If you ask me, they look better than the originals anyway.

If they broke your lugs getting them off - they should replace them.

Early LS lugs were complete crap, my 2000 included.

Go the the Chrysler Stealership and get some Sebring lugs, from the convertible I think. Research it further, but you're after Chrysler lugs.

Yeah I've probably had more than half of mine replaced, and my shop paid for them all, it's a Goodyear Gemini place. They even ordered me a spare to keep in the glove compartment so next time they ruin one, they'll have a replacement ready.

Yeah, i went down to the Auto Parts and just bought me a standard type filter for about 8 bucks, probably still cheaper than the stealership. Lug nuts, well i would pay 5 bucks for a set of solid chrome ones but not the cheesy tin ones from the dealer. I think the mechanic used a socket maybe a size to big or std. for metric or vice versa.

the ls lugz just plain out suck.. so does that stupid gorilla key.... i need to get a new one to take off my remaing 2 locking lugs... any idea how much one costs?

I ordered one solid chrome lub off ebay from a Sebring and mounted it up. Fits nice.
Now I just need to order 19 more.
